District Committee Scholarships
District committee scholarship applications are reviewed and selected by the scholarship committee at each campus. Completing the student profile and essay below, will give you an opportunity to be awarded any of the following district scholarships as long as you meet the set criteria. Scholarship recipients will be awarded on Senior Awards Night.
All scholarship applications are due by Friday, March 26 unless otherwise noted on scholarship criteria. All Essays should be submitted as a PDF file or word document.

Amount: $1,000 (1 Central Student and 1 West Student)

Scholarship Criteria
- Minimum 3.0 G.P.A.
- Students must plan to pursue a medical-related program in college
Barbara Markelz Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 (or 2 $500)
Campus: Joliet West
Scholarship Criteria
- Student must be a graduating senior of Joliet West High School
- Student must currently be on the staff of the Tiger Tales newspaper and/or Alpha Omega yearbook
- Scholarship will be awarded upon proof of enrollment at any college/university, community college or trade school
- The amount of the scholarship will be determined by the number of chosen recipients
Beverly Grossman Scholarship
Amount: $500 (1 Central Student and 1 West Student)

Scholarship Criteria
- Preference will be given to, but not limited to the following criteria:
- Complete application form
- Minimum 2.0 G.P.A.Demonstrates financial need
- Not receiving any other scholarship awards through the school
- Review of student discipline

Amount: $500 (1 Central Student and 1 West Student)

- Student with "strong" math ability

Brenton H. Wadsworth Scholarship / JTHS Foundation
Amount: $1,000 (2 Central Student and 2 West Student)

- One male and one female
- Complete an application form
- Minimum 3.5 grade point average
- Demonstrate financial need
- Community service performed in excess of the standard graduation requirement
- Participated in team-building activities

Catherine & Russell Ghilain Scholarship
Amount: $2,000 (1 Student) or $1,000 (2 students)

Scholarship Criteria
- Graduating senior from Joliet Township High School, Central campus
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Other things being equal, financial need will be considered an important factor
- Preference will be given to students planning to attend one of the following: Joliet Junior College, University of St. Francis, N.I.U. or S.I.U.
- Pursuing a career in education with interest in becoming a teacher and/or desire in studying communication or broadcasting in the Radio, Television & Digital Media program at S.I.U.; or, Communication & Media Arts at the University of St. Francis; or, Communication Studies at N.I.U.

Daniel Bryan Dow Memorial Award
Amount: $1,100
Campus: Joliet West
Scholarship Criteria
- Graduating male senior from West Campus
- Student must be college bound and plan to attend the University of Illinois Engineering College and preferably be a Computer Science Major
- Student should be in the accelerated program and the top 10% of the graduating class
- This award should be presented without regard to income level
Dr. Cheryl McCarthy Future Educator Scholarship
Amount: $500 (1 Central Student and 1 West Student)

Scholarship Criteria
- Minimum 3.5 GPA
- Pursing a major in Education
- Involved in at least one extra-curricular activity
Eastside Neighborhood Council Scholarship
Amount: $200

Scholarship Criteria
- Demonstrate leadership skills
- Have a good attendance record
- Be involved in at least one community outreach program
- Have a desire to be successful
- Enrolled at Joliet Junior College for the Fall semester
Eken Family Scholarship Fund
Amount: $4,000 (2 Students)

Scholarship Criteria
- Eligible candidates demonstrate financial need, and be officially enrolled as a student at Joliet Central High School, Joliet, IL
- Students must have participated in at least one extra-curricular activity during their high school career at Joliet Central
- One scholarship awarded to a student who has accumulated a 3.2 G.P.A. on a 4-point G.P.A. scale
- One scholarship awarded to a student who has demonstrated academic growth/improvement during their high school career and has attained a minimum 2.5 G.P.A. on a 4-point G.P.A. scale
- Preference will be given, but not limited to students planning to attend one of the following: Joliet Junior College, Illinois State University, Carthage College, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Miami University Oxford, Ohio
Ellery Frost Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 (1 Central and 1 West Student)

Scholarship Criteria
- Successful completion of three credits in industrial education, including vocational course work
- The recipient must plan on pursuing training in traditional industrial arts and enroll in a school/college for trade and industrial-related careers
- Demonstrated potential and performance in industrial/vocational education. Scholarship, character, and motivation are to be considered
- Financial need does not have to be considered for this award
- There will be no discrimination based on sex, race, creed, or handicaps
Elwood Energy Innovator Scholarship Award
Amount: $2,500
Campus: Joliet Central
Scholarship Criteria
- Graduating senior from Joliet Township H.S. Central
- Student must major in STEM-related field
- Student must attend 4-year college or university
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Demonstrate financial need

Emilie Baltz Scholarship
Amount: $250 (4 Students Total - 2/Art and 2/Photo)

- Open to students of exceptional art and photography talent and motivation
- Only 2nd or 3rd year of art or photo students to be eligible
- Selection to be made by the Arts & Photo teachers
- Pursuing an Art or Photography major

- Must have earned at least 3 credits in social science courses (history, government, economics, etc.)
- Must be planning on going to college and majoring in history or other social science related major

Joe Baltz Family Memorial Photography Scholarship
Amount: $500
Campus: Joliet Central
Scholarship Criteria
The Joe Baltz Family Memorial Photography Scholarships are a gift dedicated to the memory of Joe Baltz, former photography teacher at Joliet Central, and his spirit of observation and search for life simplicity.
- Student who is the first college bound in their family
- Student has taken Photo 1, 2, 3, at JTHS Central Campus
- Pursuing a major in Photography, with a college acceptance letter in that field
- Money will be given directly to student to be used to defray some school fees

Joseph & Cecilia Trizna Memorial Scholarship Award
Amount: $500
Campus: Joliet West
Scholarship Criteria
- Scholarship, character, motivation, and aptitude for success are to be considered
- Consideration should be given to a student that plans to enter an education, a legal, or a law enforcement field following a college education. A stated major is not required of the recipient
- Financial need does not have to be considered for this award
- Other scholarships and awards to students should not be considered
- There will be no discrimination based on sex, race, creed or handicaps
JTHS Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship - Pending

- Student must be relative of a Joliet Central, East or West Alumni
- Student must have participated in school activities
- Student must have completed more than 40 hours of community service
- Student must be accepted to a two or four-year school post-secondary school in Illinois

Kimberly Michelle Dow Memorial Award

- Graduating female senior from West Campus
- Student must be college bound (not junior college)
- Student should be in the accelerated program and the top 10% of the graduating class
- Student should be involved in Women's Athletics (Gymnastic Team if possible)
- This award should be presented without regard to income level
Larry M. Shaw Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $250 (4 Students)

Scholarship Criteria
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Completed two or more vocational education courses (Business Ed, Vocational Tech or Consumer Sciences)
- The recipient must plan on pursuing vocational train in a post-secondary institution or program (College/University, Junior College, Vocational/Technical School, Apprentice Training Program, etc.)
- Priority given to students with financial aid

Scholarship Criteria
- Selection to be made by Arts & Communication SLC teachers and coordinator
- Based on literary writing (i.e. essay)

Tim Baltz Scholarship
Amount: $400 (2 Foreign Language Students /2 Drama Students)

Scholarship Criteria
- Graduating senior from Joliet Central High School
- Only 2nd or 3rd year French/Spanish students, or 2nd or 3rd year Drama students to be eligible
- Selection to be made my French/Spanish teachers and Drama teachers
- Priority given to students pursuing Foreign Language major/minor, and students pursuing Performing Arts/Communication/Media Studies major/minor
