District Committee Scholarships

District committee scholarship applications are reviewed and selected by the scholarship committee at each campus.  Completing the student profile and essay below, will give you an opportunity to be awarded any of the following district scholarships as long as you meet the set criteria. Scholarship recipients will be awarded on Senior Awards Night. 

All scholarship applications are due by Friday, March 22 unless otherwise noted on scholarship criteria

AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center Scholarship 
Amount: $1,000 (3 Central Students and 3 West Students)   
Campus: Joliet Central and Joliet West 

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Minimum 3.0 G.P.A.
  2. Students must plan to pursue a medical-related program in college
     
Barbara Markelz Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 (or 2 $500) 
Campus: Joliet West 

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Student must be a graduating senior of Joliet West High School
  2. Student must currently be on the staff of the Tiger Tales newspaper and/or Alpha Omega yearbook
  3. Scholarship will be awarded upon proof of enrollment at any college/university, community college or trade school
  4. The amount of the scholarship will be determined by the number of chosen recipients

Beverly Grossman Scholarship 
Amount: $500 (1 Central Student and 1 West Student)   
Campus: Joliet Central and Joliet West

  1. ​Preference will be given to, but not limited to the following criteria:

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Graduating senior from Joliet Township High School, Central campus
  2. Minimum 2.5 GPA
  3. Other things being equal, financial need will be considered an important factor
  4. Preference will be given to students planning to attend one of the following: Joliet Junior College, University of St. Francis, N.I.U. or S.I.U.
  5. Pursuing a career in education with interest in becoming a teacher and/or desire in studying communication or broadcasting in the Radio, Television & Digital Media program at S.I.U.; or, Communication & Media Arts at the University of St. Francis; or, Communication Studies at N.I.U.

Amount: $500 (2 Central Students)

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Graduating male senior from West Campus
  2. Student must be college bound and plan to attend the University of Illinois Engineering College and preferably be a Computer Science Major
  3. Student should be in the accelerated program and the top 10% of the graduating class
  4. This award should be presented without regard to income level
Ellery Frost Memorial Scholarship 
Amount: $1,000 (1 Central and 1 West Student)   
Campus: Joliet Central and Joliet West 

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Successful completion of three credits in industrial education, including vocational course work
  2. The recipient must plan on pursuing training in traditional industrial arts and enroll in a school/college for trade and industrial-related careers
  3. Demonstrated potential and performance in industrial/vocational education. Scholarship, character, and motivation are to be considered
  4. Financial need does not have to be considered for this award
  5. There will be no discrimination based on sex, race, creed, or handicaps
     
Elwood Energy Innovator Scholarship Award
Amount: $2,500
Campus: Joliet Central 

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​​Graduating senior from Joliet Township H.S. Central
  2. Student must major in STEM-related field
  3. Student must attend 4-year college or university
  4. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  5. Demonstrate financial need

Exelon Dresden Station Inclusion Council Scholarship
Amount: $500

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​​Diverse graduating senior
  2. Pursuing a STEM related degree at a Community College, four-year College or University, or similar institution of higher learning
  3. Funds to be paid directly to college/university

Fathers for Education - DLS Scholarship 
Amount: $500 (1 Female and 1 Male Student)

Scholarship Criteria

  1. Pursuing a career in education or social services such as; teacher, psychologist, social worker, counselor
  2. Has demonstrated community service above and beyond the minimum 40 hours
  3. Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of a 3.0
  4. Minimum SAT score of 1060
  5. Financial need does not have to be considered for this award

Joe Baltz Family Memorial Photography Scholarship 
Amount: $500 (2 Students) 
Campus: Joliet Central

Scholarship Criteria
The Joe Baltz Family Memorial Photography Scholarships are a gift dedicated to the memory of Joe Baltz, former photography teacher at Joliet Central, and his spirit of observation and search for life simplicity.

  1. Student who is the first college bound in their family
  2. Student has taken Photo 1, 2, 3, at JTHS Central Campus
  3. Pursuing a major in Photography, with a college acceptance letter in that field
  4. Money will be given directly to student to be used to defray some school fees
  5. Completed application

    This scholarship will be selected by the Donor and District Scholarship Committee at each campus. 
     
Joliet Central Parent Club Scholarship
Amount: $500 (1 Female and 1 Male Student)

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​At least one male and one female
  2. Financial need
  3. Not receiving any other scholarship awards through the school
     
Joseph & Cecilia Trizna Memorial Scholarship Award 
Amount: $500 
Campus: Joliet West

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Scholarship, character, motivation, and aptitude for success are to be considered
  2. Consideration should be given to a student that plans to enter an education, a legal, or a law enforcement field following a college education.  A stated major is not required of the recipient
  3. Financial need does not have to be considered for this award
  4. Other scholarships and awards to students should not be considered
  5. There will be no discrimination based on sex, race, creed or handicaps
     
JTHS Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship
Amount: $250 (1 Central and 1 West Student) 
Campus: Joliet Central and Joliet West 

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Student must be relative of a Joliet Central, East or West Alumni
  2. Student must have participated in school activities
  3. Student must have completed more than 40 hours of community service
  4. Student must be accepted to a two or four-year school post-secondary school in Illinois
  5. Complete application form
JTHS Class of 1958 Gold Scholarship / JTHS Foundation 
Amount: $500 (1 Central and 1 West Student)

  3. Funds to be used for tuition and/or fees at any university, college, junior/community college, or any vocational/trade school

JTHS Foundation Scholarship 
Amount: $500 (5 Central and 5 West Students)

Scholarship Criteria

  4. Minimum of 60 hours of documented community service
  5. Not selected for any other district/school scholarships

Kimberly Michelle Dow Memorial Award
Amount: $1,000

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Graduating female senior from West Campus
  2. Student must be college bound (not junior college)
  3. Student should be in the accelerated program and the top 10% of the graduating class
  4. Student should be involved in Women's Athletics (Gymnastic Team if possible)
  5. This award should be presented without regard to income level
     
Larry M. Shaw Memorial Scholarship 
Amount: $250 (4 Students)

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Minimum 2.5 GPA
  2. Completed two or more vocational education courses (Business Ed, Vocational Tech or Consumer Sciences)
  3. The recipient must plan on pursuing vocational train in a post-secondary institution or program (College/University, Junior College, Vocational/Technical School, Apprentice Training Program, etc.)
  4. Priority given to students with financial aid

Marion K. Bowles Scholarship Award 
Amount: $500 
Campus: Joliet Central

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Scholarship, character, motivation and aptitude for success are to be considered
  2. Other things being equal, financial need will be considered an important factor

  4. The student shall also have selected a career in science or closely related to science
     
Mark Brockett Scholarship Award
Amount: $2,500

Scholarship Criteria

  1. ​Must be accepted and committed to attend University of Illinois
  2. Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate other
  3. Persistence in the face of challenge or difficult circumstances
  4. Willingness to work cooperatively with others toward a positive outcome
  5. Effective communication skills, both written and oral
  6. Interest in studying communication, media, or broadcasting
  7. Participation in co- and/or extra-curricular activities (Televised Student News Network, Yearbook, student athletics to be given first consideration)
     
Mark Turk Scholarship / JTHS Foundation

The Eken Family Scholarship Fund
Amount: $3,000 (2 Students) 
Campus: Joliet Central

Scholarship Criteria

  1. Eligible candidates demonstrate financial need, and be officially enrolled as a student at Joliet Central High School, Joliet, IL
  2. Two scholarships of equal value to be granted on an annual basis
  3. Students must have participated in at least one extra-curricular activity during their high school career at Joliet Central
  4. One scholarship awarded to a student who has accumulated a 3.2 G.P.A. on a 4-point G.P.A. scale
  5. One scholarship awarded to a student who has demonstrated academic growth/improvement during their high school career and has attained a minimum 2.5 G.P.A. on a 4-point G.P.A. scale
  6. Preference will be given, but not limited to students planning to attend one of the following: Joliet Junior College, Illinois State University, Carthage College, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Miami University Oxford, Ohio
     
William K. Schmidt Scholarship
