Families and Students:
JTHS students in grades 9-12 are tested annually on the STAR Reading and Mathematics Benchmarking Assessments through their English and math classrooms. Benchmarking assessments are interval, short assessments completed typically in fall, winter, and spring to help drive instruction, deliver more personalized learning, and help accelerate math and reading growth for our students. The data from these assessments help determine course placement, content needs, and if additional support may be needed in reading or math. Additionally, teachers will work with students on goal setting and growth goals based on the data they receive. Your student’s fall results were shared recently in November, and we are getting ready to administer the winter assessment to monitor growth.
The winter administration of these assessments is scheduled for Monday, December 9, through Friday, December 13, in your child's English and/or math classroom.
We encourage students to:
-
Charge their laptop for testing.
-
Get a good night's rest before the testing.
-
Eat a good breakfast or lunch before testing.
-
Take all assessments seriously as they may impact course placements, determine college and career readiness, and help understand individual strengths or opportunities in the content area.
-
Take your time. Review instructions and questions carefully to avoid missing questions you may know.
-
Look for improvements since the fall assessment and work with your family or teachers on areas not fully mastered.
-
Take their time, relax, and give their best effort.
