Will County Clerks Office Board Recognition

The Joliet Township High School Board of Education recently recognized the Joliet Central and West students who participated in the Will County Clerk’s Student Ambassador& Election Judge Program during this year’s General Primary Election.

The program was founded in October 2019 by Will County Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry as a non-partisan program for high school juniors and seniors. Through the program, students receive hands-on experience of the local election process, are encouraged to host voter registration drives at their schools with the assistance of the Will County Clerk’s Office and have the opportunity to work as a Student Election Judge, Election Night Worker or on occasion a Student Field Technician on election day.  Ms. Tanya Arias serves as the Student Ambassador Program/Student Election Judge Coordinator.

Student Judges assist election judges with opening and setup procedures at their assigned polling place and during voting hours they check-in voters and verify voter eligibility, hand out ballots to voters and ensure the voting process is fair and secure. These students also assist with closing procedures for their polling place. Election Night Workers are assigned to work at a Will County Clerk’s Office satellite location on election night where they greet election judges returning election day supplies and verify all supplies are returned. Student Field Technicians are used for elections due to an increase of Field Technicians needed to assist with brand new election equipment procedures. Field Techs are they eyes and ears in the field on election day for the County Clerk’s Office. They assist with any technical support, troubleshooting and assisting election judges at their assigned location with checking-in voters, ensuring judges are handing out correct ballots and assisting with opening and closing procedures.
