Anime Club

Anime Club is a community of people who like talking about and watching anime. We analyze, discuss, and critique each anime we watch, so everyone takes home some new and interesting facts about the anime they love. Whether you have watched 100 different anime or have never watched one before, you are welcome here.

Art Club at Joliet Central High School is a space where students can come to work on and enjoy art, and interact with like-minded peers in a comfortable setting. Traditionally, we also work with the community and school, making artwork for displays, and school-wide events. Astro Club

Astro club is a place for Central and West students to come and learn about the wonderfully wild universe around us. We will learn about the groundbreaking science happening everyday driving scientist to know more and more about the moon, planets, stars, black holes, nebula, star clusters, and galaxies. Students will have the opportunity to observe and photograph some of these objects with things they have at home and the schools equipment.
Band

Big Band: The Joliet Central Big Band is a volunteer/auditioned ensemble comprised of standard big band/jazz instrumentation (saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, percussion, guitar, bass). Students study and perform jazz literature from multiple time periods and genres, and perform at local events, concerts, and special performances.
Stage Band: The Joliet Central Stage Band is a volunteer ensemble comprised of band instruments and some string instruments. Students study and perform a wide variety of literature from multiple time periods and genres, including jazz, mariachi, and modern rock and pop music. Performances are available for local events, concerts, and special performances. No audition or experience is necessary.

Using the principles of Kwanzaa, such as unity, purpose and self-determination, Joliet Central’s Black Student Union promotes Black culture, Black heritage, academic excellence and community service. Members can expect to have thought-provoking discussions, guest speakers from underrepresented careers, field trips and opportunities to participate in various programs from open mics to assemblies. Club puentes is an inclusive group of young people that want to transform their city through serving the community in a unique way. This includes sponsoring community service projects with a focus on embracing the people within our neighborhoods, celebrating our unique and diverse identity and helping others to do the same.

Contest Play is open to IHSA eligible students with an interest in the performance, technical, and management areas of drama and theatre. Students will prepare a 40 minute production utilizing sets, lights, sounds, and costumes. For more information, please contact TBD
Drama Club

Joliet Central's Drama Club is a combination of the drama activities we run throughout the year: Fall Play, Speech Team, Short Film, Contest Play, Group Interpretation, and the Musical. Involvement in more than one of these activities qualifies you for the Drama Club.
Dungeons & Dragons

Meet and socialize with others with similar interests in DnD. Students will be put into a group with a Dungeon Master to play through an adventure.
Environmental Action Club

Students will learn about local environmental issues in Joliet and Will County. They will conduct research on local issues, share information through flyers and videos, with the school community. Students will learn about environmental activism through attendance at local government meetings and will be presented with the opportunity to speak at these meetings.

Fearless Females is a club for female identifying students that discusses social issues in regards to women, and advocates for equality, individuality, social justice, and change. This year we will focus on our members’ social-emotional well-being, and provide them with the needed support to get through this difficult time. Garden Club

Garden Club is a space where you can enjoy the outdoors, meet people, and have fun! Through Garden Club, student gardeners gain hands-on knowledge in planting, cultivating, and harvesting. Students have the opportunity to learn from experienced University of Illinois Master Gardeners, grow organic fruits, veggies, and flowers. You can take home delicious fresh food, but most of what we grow gets donated to nearby shelters/community pantries. New members are always welcome and bring your friends! Group Interpretation

Group interp is a unique style of drama that involves a great deal of vocal and creative acting. It is not a traditional type of play; instead, the students create aspects of a traditional play with their bodies, sound effects, and movement. We are looking for creative players to join our team for Group Interpretation at Joliet Central.

Junior Class is a group that meets to help plan and execute the annual Joliet Central High School Prom. We also raise funds to help offset the cost of prom tickets; as well as completing a yearly service project to better our community. Math Team

Joliet Central math team competes in a variety of math competitions throughout the year. The students complete different math problems and points are awarded for correct answers. Every year we compete in 6 international competitions with students all over the world. We also compete in our SPC conference tournament, the JJC Invitational and the ICTM Regional Competition. Last year our students finished 2nd at the JJC Regional competition by 1 point and we had a student qualify for state!
Mu Alpha Theta

Mu Alpha Theta is an international mathematics honor society. Students must maintain a B average in all math courses taken. We were not able to induct students last year but will be inducting juniors and seniors in the Spring. We usually hold a math fair in the fall, run a tutoring program through out the year, and have a Pi day activity in the Spring.
Multicultural Club

The purpose of the Multicultural Club is to celebrate the diversity of cultures within our school and community. Our goals are to: provide meaningful community service opportunities for students within the community with various organizations that will expose them to different cultures; bring awareness to global issues that are affecting students and families within our community; celebrate and share the diverse cultures through an assembly highlighting history, music, dance, and other performances, and provide support for students who are college bound or trade-school bound. We work towards helping our students develop into well-rounded, responsible global citizens.

The JTC Journal is the school newspaper for Joliet Central. The JTC Journal is in charge of covering any school news, activities or sports. NFHS (National French Honor Society)

Joliet Central's chapter of the National Honor Society recognizes student who accel in the four pillars of NHS: leadership, scholarship, service, and character.Students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the first five semesters of high school are invited to apply for membership in the spring of their junior year. Selected members participate in a variety of service projects and leadership events and are recognized at graduation with honor cords and National Honor Society stoles.

Orchestra

The JTHS Orchestras provide a musically artistic outlet for our string students and to showcase their talent to the community. Our shared passion and enthusiasm for music are communicated through our public concerts. Orchestra is open to anyone with junior high experience with a stringed instrument.

Photography Club

Photography club begins meeting in January of each school year. Members are limited to current and past photography students. Students design and collaborate on a Zine and a corresponding website that showcases the unique writing and Photography skills by its club members. Photo Club is a student run organization and dictates the content of the zine/website that includes Current Events, Sassy Student Spotlights, Poetry, Creative Projects and Photography.
Rho Kappa

Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of social studies. Rho Kappa provides national recognition and opportunities for exploration in the social studies. A competitive robotics team composed of students from Central and West campus. Our team focuses on building students’ engineering and design principles to plan, build, and program a robot to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition with teams from all over the world. This club is great for any student interested in Science! Students will be able to select science topics based on interest and will prepare to compete by creating their own resources, taking practice tests, and working with their partners. Students will develop additional science skills, collaborate, and have the opportunity to learn about additional science topics that are not offered as part of a course at Joliet Central.

The Senior Class Committee at Joliet Central High School creates and promotes a myriad of opportunities for students to cultivate school pride and engage in school sponsored activities to promote school spirit. The committee meets weekly to plan and carry out the club's expectations ranging from senior class favorites and senior banquet to trivia nights and themed show-and-tells. We are also responsible for the design, ordering, and selling of the senior class t-shirt. We encourage as many members to get involved and welcome all seniors.

This new Joliet Central Drama activity is an IHSA performance competition that is 100% student-run. Students will create the concept and script, film the movie, and participate in the editing process. The final short film will be judged with the hope of winning the IHSA State competition.

Steel Tones

Steeltones is an all-volunteer, extra-curricular vocal ensemble that meets weekly. We focus on popular music styles – pop, rock, musical theater, etc. We perform at Joliet Central choir concerts, community events, and sometimes partner with professional groups for special performances. Recent highlights include sharing the stage with FOREIGNER, THE TENORS (featured on the Oprah show), and America’s Got Talent semi-finalists MUSICALITY. Entry to the ensemble is by audition and director approval.
STEM Club

Student Ambassador Union
The Student Ambassador Union consists of opportunities to represent your school by participating in community presentations, volunteer service, and giving school tours.
When you sign up to be a Student Ambassador, you join an email list. When opportunities arise, you will receive an email from me, and you can choose to participate in the opportunity, or you can decline. The Student Ambassador experience is as much as you choose to make it. Please note that in order to list the Student Ambassador Union on your student resume or college applications, you must participate in at least two student ambassador opportunities. To document participation, students must bring the Community Service Form with them to all Student Ambassador service opportunities and have it signed. The signed copy should be emailed to kschlismann@jths.org and your school counselor.

Team Human is a club whose main goal is to promote and spread KINDNESS and COMPASSION throughout our school and community. It is open to all students and staff that are interested in participating. We meet every other Thursday at 3pm, beginning with Thursday, October 1st, 2020 via Zoom (see link below). Youth Advisory Committee

Youth Advisory Committee aka Steelman Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D) is peer led club and designed for students to have opportunity to express their views and have their voices heard on topics that are important to them. Staff will assist with planning, fundraising, and support but this club is driven by the needs and wants of the students. This club empowers students to develop leadership skills, advocate for needs and wants, and learn to work together to build a community of support. As a club we will try to plan field trips, plan, and sponsor Red Ribbon Week and National Prevention Week, have opportunities to help in the community, plan Snowball (future goal) and other student lead activities, and bring awareness to topics that are affecting our students.
