JTHS Students Honored for Mathia Algebra Winter 2020 Challenge

Joliet Township High School instructors teaching the District’s new Carnegie Learning Algebra 1 College-Prep, Instructional and Bilingual Curriculum recently announced winners of their Mathia Algebra Winter 2020 Challenge.

“Mathia is an online platform that is new to our math curriculum,” said Curriculum Director Nicole McMorris.  “Using the platform in conjunction with the Carnegie textbook, students practice new content and remediate math skills, as needed.  “What makes this situation a bit unique is this curriculum was not designed for use in a remote setting; however, our teachers have worked tirelessly to help students find success within the remote environment, all while learning a new curriculum. The parameters for nominating students as challenge winners included completion of the most modules, most improved, hardest working, and students who assisted their peers with module navigation.

Mathia Algebra Winter 2020 Challenge winners are Central students Darrian Rogers for completing the most modules with accuracy; Oscar Ochoa for the number of modules completed; and Joshua Gustafson for timeliness in module completion with accuracy.  Student winners from West include Isabelle Medina for completion of the most modules, working hard, and for asking questions; Lydia Franklin for accuracy in completing the most modules; and Nicholas Vayda for completion of ALL modules without any remediation.

Each winning student received a $25 gift card.
