To assist with the transition to high school, ninth grade students enter the Freshman Academy, a small school-within-a-school, that provides a safe and nurturing environment. Freshmen begin the day a period earlier than their upper-class peers which allows them to take an additional elective or receive support in math or reading.
During the sophomore year, students enter a career-themed academy that is designed to increase student achievement by offering a small learning environment within a large school setting. Teams of teachers work collaboratively to deliver interdisciplinary lessons that relate to the academy’s career focus, preparing students for college and career.
The five JTHS Career Academies are:
Arts and Communications
Business Management and Information Systems
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
Health and Medicine
