All Systems Go! An Introduction to Human Body Systems!

Campers will have the opportunity to participate in activities and labs that explore every body system in the human body. It is based off of the Project Lead The Way: Human Body Systems curriculum and campers will get the chance to put on the shoes of a doctor by analyzing patient cases and diagnosing cases!

Awww SNAP! Let's learn about Photography

Students will be introduced to concepts in Photography using light, time and subject. We will use Analog and Digital Photography practices to create our images. Activities include a lot of physical activity such as walking around the school to take pictures, jumping, hula hooping, and popping water balloons to name a few. Students must also be comfortable working in the dark. All equipment will be provided.

Mindfulness and Meditation. Are you sensitive, feel stressed out, anxious, different? Welcome! This experience will be experiential and participants will learn several breathing and energy clearing techniques, learn how to ground and center, how to use the breath and mindfulness to manage and release stress, and to connect with self. Experiences will include instruction, classroom activities, guided meditations, labyrinth uses, drum circle and fun.

Draw! Paint! Print! - Exploring Foundations in Art

Week 1: DRAW! - This course will introduce drawing mediums and basics of drawing - students will learn how to draw 3-D forms, experiment with charcoal and pastel mediums, and apply this knowledge to create an expressive drawing of subject matter of their choice.
Week 2: PAINT! - This course will introduce students to a variety of paint mediums and approaches to creating expressive paintings - Students will learn how to mix colors, blend paint to create 3D Forms, and experiment with mark-making techniques to develop an expressive final painting that can be either abstract or realistic, depending on their preference.
Week 3: PRINT! - This course will introduce the basics of Printmaking - Students will create a Gelli print and learn about monoprinting, then carve a linoleum block pattern print to contribute to a class mural, and finally create a stencil design which they will then screen print onto a Tshirt.

Students will be introduced to basic elements of Fashion Design. Students will spend time learning about Color Theory, Fashion Illustration, Basic Hand Embroidery as well as Garment Construction through basic use of a sewing machine. Projects include Hand Embroidered Pillow, Scrunchie, Infinity Scarf, Patchwork Drawstring Bag, Tie-dyed T-shirts, Painted Color Wheel and Original Design Fashion Illustrations.

Kids In the Kitchen- Jr. chefs will learn kitchen basics, such as kitchen safety, manners, table setting, and basic cooking skills. We will be preparing appetizers, breakfast, and dessert items. Campers will end the week with a "Create your own pizza competition"!

We will be completing 4 sculpture projects.
1. We will be making wearable jewelry out of fimo clay.
2. We will be creating found art sculpture, with wire, yarn, fabrics, wood and found objects.
3. We will be making pins ansd key chains with shrink film that we color with sharpies.
4. We will be creating a painted cardboard sculptures using paint, spray paint, cardboard and glue.

Campers will safely complete a small birdhouse. They will use some of the shop's hand and electric tools, as well as glue, sandpaper and finishing materials to complete the project. Campers will be assisted by the current Woods & Construction teacher as well as several high school students from the Wood shop.

Our JTHS eSports team will help campers learn the teamwork, and communication skills needed to be successful. Each day will have a communication or leadership theme. We will use computer applications programs like excel, word, and powerpoint to help build the skills, then finish each day with the application of the skills in eSports competition.

Save the Environment in Joliet!

Four fun days of hands-on science labs and activities investigating the environmental issues in Joliet, that include visiting local parks and creeks. In this class, we will learn about how humans have impacted various environments, how we can test for environmental contaminants, and possible solutions for these problems. We will end our week going out to a nature preserve to apply our knowledge of environmental quality to a real habitat.

If you want to learn how to play chess, practice or play a competitive game- "Check Us Out! " This session is open to all that love Chess and even those that don't, but soon will! This session will teach basic strategies, openings and important end-game scenarios. Come and "Check us Out" this summer for an exciting and intellectual camp experience.

Students will be harvesting vegetable and herbs in the Joliet West Garden in order to make salsa, hot sauce, and pickles. Students will learn the process of canning pickles and each student will be able to take home something that they assisted on producing. Students will assist and construct three strawberry composting planters. These strawberry planters will be constructed from recycled food grade pickle bins. Students will use composted soil for the planters. Each planter will have a compost watering tube in the center.
The strawberry containers will be placed in the Joliet West Garden. Students will assist on the construction of 2 large classroom aquaponics models.
Each student will create a small aquaponics model to take home. And if that is not enough fun……a field trip is in the works!!!!

Learn the basics of audio production and beat creation with the Ableton Live Push controller. Instructors from Joliet Township 204 in combination with the Digital Audio Recording Academy staff from the University of St. Francis will guide students in music production using digital audio workstations. By the end of the camp, students will understand the basics of music production using the Ableton Live Push controller and will create their own original song that can be shared with others.

The Joliet Young Musicians Mentor Band is a no-cost summer music program for6th-12th-grade instrumental musicians in the Joliet community. Junior high students will receive musical instruction; Joliet high school band students will receive musical leadership training. Band directors, music staff, and select high school students will serve as instructors, including student guest conductors. All students will participate in both small groups and a fullband and will perform as a band ina community performance that is free and open to the public.
Participating students should have at least one year of instrumental music experience, and should have access to an instrument. Students without access to a musical instrument should have their parent(s) contact Mr. Stinson at 815-727-6705 or dstinson@jths.org.
The camp takes place from July 8-11, 1-5pm, and July 15-18, 1-5pm. All sessions occur at Joliet Central High School in the band room. A performance is scheduled for July 18 in the evening at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park, Joliet, IL.

The Summer Strings Symposium is an opportunity for 6th-12th graders to meet before the beginning of school and work together to build friendships and develop strong string-playing habits. We will build technique, explore repertoire, meet and work together, as well as be involved in clinics with area professionals. High school students will act as mentors and student conductors. They will also lead sectionals and sit along-side of the junior high students. We will also talk about instrument care and maintenance and practice changing strings and adjusting bridges. Both weeks will take place in the band/orchestra room at Joliet West. We will also explore a performance opportunity after the camps and possibly take a field trip to the Symphony Center in Chicago.
