Superintendent Message – Semester 2 Week 5 Remote Learning

Dear Parents and Students, 
 
We celebrate Black History and heritage this month.  Please join Central’s Black Student Union and West’s Black Lives Matter Club for an engaging panel discussion featuring prominent African Americans from the Joliet area.  The virtual event takes place on February 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. and is open to all students, parents, and community members.   More information is coming soon.  Save the date. 
 
Website Translation to Spanish 
We are pleased to announce a new tool that translates our entire website to Spanish.  We review and change translations if needed to make sure words are accurate.  You can access our website in Spanish by clicking the language option located at the bottom right corner of the JTHS, JCHS, & JWHS sites. If you want to see additional language options, contact Diana Viveros

FAFSA Graduation Requirement 
Seniors - This is another reminder that you MUST fill out a FAFSA, an Alternative Application, or Waiver as a graduation requirement this year. For those filling out the FAFSA or the Alternative Application- each of these are time sensitive and money can run out! Don't know which one you should fill out?  Check out the graphic below. Need help?  At Central, contact Ms. Cardenas or Ms. Fuentes and at West, contact your school counselor.

2021 Illinois Parent Survey 
Parents and Guardians - We need you to take the Illinois 5Essentials Survey so we can improve our schools.  The survey takes a few minutes and is confidential.  We won’t know who you are, and we won’t share your information.  Take the survey as soon as possible.  It closes April 2. 
 
NHBW Teen Summit 
Students are invited to attend the Teens Overcoming Pressure Virtual Summit on February 23 from 3 to 4 p.m.  Topics are mental health and overcoming school challenges. The event is free and open to teens ages 13-17.  Register here and view flyer.  
 
Student Wellness Policy Review 
Student wellness, good nutrition, and physical activity are promoted in our educational programs, activities, and meal programs.  We are completing the annual review of WELLNESS POLICY 6:50.  If you have suggestions/comments about the development, implementation or improvement of the policy email Brian Shaw
