JTHS Families,

There are many opportunities available for students, including online tutoring if needed.  Additional information is below.

Parent Teacher Conferences – Registration Begins Sept. 22 at 4 PM
Semester 1 Parent Teacher Conferences take place virtually on Thursday, October 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday, October 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  We will send the link to sign up on September 22 at 4 p.m. Please be on the lookout for this email.

Online Tutoring  
Starting on September 18, JTHS students can sign up for free virtual tutoring sessions provided by JTHS teachers.  Tutoring is available after school and on weekends at no cost to families.  More info is HERE.

Vaccinations & Physicals Available Sept 16. at Community Day Event
The National Hook-Up of Black Women & the Will County Health Department are hosting a Community Day on September 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the NHBW Headquarters, 1705 Richards Street in Joliet.  Physicals and meningitis, flu, pneumonia, HPV, COVID-19, and infant vaccinations will be available.  Please bring proof of insurance or Medicaid.  The event also includes free books, household goods, clothing, and school supplies; expungement Information; job opportunities; face painting; a game truck; and more!  View the Event Flyer­ for additional information. 

JTHS Board of Education Meeting – Sept. 19   
The JTHS Board of Education invites families and the community to their next regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. on September 19 at the JTHS Administrative Center.  Agendas are posted at least 48 hours prior to the meetings.  If you cannot attend in person, meetings are accessible via live stream.  Individuals wishing to make public comments must sign up upon arrival before 6:50 p.m. 

Job Shadowing Experience for Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors – Sept. 23
JTHS is re-launching the Job Shadowing Program to provide students with exposure to real-world work environments. Sophomore, junior, and senior students will receive opportunities to participate in Job Shadowing Field Trips during the school day. Please note that students can only participate in one Job Shadowing Experience Field Trip per school year.  The first Job Shadowing Experience opportunity is at Professional Choice Hair Design Academy on September 26.  View the announcement for more information and to sign up.

Donuts for Drivers Breakfast – Sept. 23 
Are you interested in becoming a JTHS School Bus Driver?   If so, join us at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 23 at the JTHS Transportation Center, 3901 Olympic Blvd in Joliet for our Donuts for Drivers Breakfast.  Learn about the requirements for becoming a bus driver, salary and benefit information, and take a tour of the JTHS Transportation Facility. A hot breakfast will be served.  Complete the Donuts for Drivers RSVP Form if you will attend.  More information is HERE
 
Critical Conversation Event – Sept. 23 
Are you passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion? Do you want to participate in authentic conversations with school and community leaders regarding the impact of racism on students, disciplinary patterns, instructional practices, and school policies?  Then join us for the first Critical Conversation event on September 23 from 9 a.m. to noon at the JTHS Administrative Center.  More information is available in the Critical Conversation Flyer.  Please RSVP HERE if you can attend.

Partnership Recruitment Event – Oct. 5
Parents and business/community partners who want to get involved in our high schools are invited to attend our recruitment event on October 5 at the administrative center.  Breakfast is provided.  More info HERE.

Pink Heals – Oct. 16
Joliet West High School will host the annual Pink Heals JT Volleyball Fundraiser on Monday, October 16.  The Central vs. West cross-town volleyball event takes place in the West Gymnasium with the JV/freshman game starting at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Pre-Game Survivors Ceremony, and then the varsity game.  Doors open at 3:30 p.m. More info HERE.

Bilingual Parent Advisory Council Workshop – Oct. 19
The JTHS Bilingual Parent Advisory Council (BPAC) invites families to an Educational Supports Workshop on October 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Joliet Central High School Cafeteria, 201 E. Jefferson Street in Joliet.  The workshop will be presented in Spanish with English interpretation available.  During the workshop, attendees will hear from Superintendent Dr. Karla Guseman and educational leaders about the topics of the JTHS Strategic Plan, special services, athletics/activities, college and career readiness and more!  Appetizers, refreshments, and free childcare for children ages 3 and older will be provided.  Complete the October 19 BPAC RSVP Form if you will attend.  For more information about BPAC and the various events available to families, please visit the Bilingual Parent Advisory Website.

Joliet Region Education Community Connectors Meeting – Oct. 20
Are you a member of a community or faith-based organization looking for an opportunity to connect with JTHS leadership and the superintendent to align resources, embrace diversity, and support the JTHS Strategic Plan?  If so, then the Joliet Region Education Community Connectors (JRECC) is for you!!  We invite you to join us for the first meeting on October 20 at the JTHS Administrative Center, 300 Caterpillar Drive in Joliet.  A hot breakfast is available at 7:30 a.m. and the meeting will conclude no later than 10 a.m.  Spanish interpretation is available.  During the meeting, attendees will hear an informative presentation about Joliet Job Corps delivered by Job Corps leaders.  Please complete the JRECC Meeting RSVP Form if you can attend.
