JTHS Families,

We thank our Joliet West students, families, and staff for their patience and cooperation during the e-learning day this week that took place this week due to the Water Main Break near West Campus.  As a reminder, if you are a parent or guardian who has not signed up to receive text messages, you may do so by texting Yes to 67587.

Joliet Central Spring Musical Little Shop of Horrors – April 19 & 20 at 7 PM
The Joliet Central High School Drama & Music Departments invite the community, parents, staff, students, and alumni to their Spring Musical Little Shop of Horrors at 7 p.m. on April 19 and 20 in the Joliet Central High School Auditorium, 201 E. Jefferson Street in Joliet.  Tickets are available at the door for $10.  Don’t miss out on this entertaining musical experience presented by the talented students of Joliet Central High School. 

Critical Conversations Event – April 24 at Workforce Development Center
Parents, students, staff, and community members are invited to a Critical Conversation event on Wednesday, April 24, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Workforce Development Center, 2400 Glenwood Avenue in Joliet. The purpose of the event is to discuss the topic of social justice in our schools and community.  Discussion will revolve around topics in the book “Becoming a Social Justice Leader” and focuses on examining and challenging the impact of racism and other forms of oppression on disciplinary patterns, instructional practices, and school policies.  No prior knowledge of the book is necessary to participate. Complete the Critical Conversation April 24 RSVP Form if you plan to attend as dinner will be served.

Early Release SIP Day – April 25
April 25 is a School Improvement Day and early release for students.  Students will follow the A Schedule.  Central, West, and Pathway students are dismissed from school at 11:45 a.m. AVAC students are dismissed at 11:30 a.m., and Transition Center students are dismissed at 10:45 a.m. Click on the links below to view the attendance calendar.

Joliet Central FAFSA Workshop for Central Seniors & Families – April 25
Joliet Central is hosting a FAFSA workshop for senior parents and students on April 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room.  We encourage students to attend with their families if they need assistance completing the FAFSA, the alternative application, or have general questions about financial aid. Representatives from ISAC and JJC will be present to assist families. We recommend that families register, but it is not required. See the flyer for details.

Request Your Summer Reading Book(s) by April 26
Joliet Township High School’s librarians have created a diverse list of high-interest and high-quality summer reading titles to choose from.  If you would like to receive a summer reading book before the end of this school year to keep, please fill out this survey if you are a current JTHS student and fill out this survey if you are an 8th grader. Your book will be delivered to your English classroom before the end of this school year. The survey will close on April 26.

Community Service Opportunity – Collins St. Neighborhood Cleanup April 27
Students and the community are invited to participate in the annual Collins St. Neighborhood Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Students will receive two community service hours for participating.  Bring the Community Service Form with you and make sure to have it signed.  Lunch is provided.  More information is in the Collins St. Neighborhood Cleanup Website Post.

Michael Austin Clark (MAC) Mentoring Community Block Party – April 27 
Families are invited to attend the MAC Mentoring Community Block Party on Saturday, April 27 from noon to 3 p.m. at the National Hook-Up of Black Women Headquarters, 1705 Richards Street in Joliet.  View the MAC Mentoring & Block Party Announcement for more information. 

Graduation Timeline & Information for JTHS Seniors
Joliet Central and West are hosting two graduation ceremonies at each campus for the Class of 2024. On April 15, students received a link allowing them to select their in-person graduation session: Saturday, May 18 at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. The event sign-up closes on April 22. BPAC Workshop Featuring Psychologist Dr. Ferney Ramirez – April 29
JTHS, together with the Bilingual Parent Advisory Council, is hosting a workshop with Dr. Ferney Ramirez on April 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. The workshop will take place at Joliet Central High School in the 2nd-floor Multi-Purpose Room. Respected and popular psychologist, Dr. Ferney Ramirez, will share strategies that will help our families gain a better understanding of how to build and form positive relationships in their homes. Dr. Ramirez is the author of 10 publications on mental health and president of Family First. He coordinates programs for families in Chicago and numerous school districts in Illinois. Free childcare (ages 3-12) will be available. Appetizers and refreshments will be provided. This event will be featured in Spanish with English interpretation
services available.

JTHS Board of Education Meeting – May 21
The next Board of Education meeting is 7 p.m. on May 21 at the Administrative CenterAgendas are posted at least 48 hours before the meeting.  Meetings are live-streamed. Individuals wishing to make public comments must sign up upon arrival before 6:50 p.m.
