Tickets and sponsorships are now available for Joyful Brunch 2026, a celebration honoring the life and legacy of the late Michael Austin Clark. The event supports two initiatives rooted in Mike’s commitment to service, education and athletics: the MAC Mentoring Program and the Michael Austin Clark JTHS Athletic Boosters Endowed Scholarship.

Joyful Brunch 2026 will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Renaissance Center in downtown Joliet, offering guests an elegant and immersive celebration from start to finish. The day begins with a Welcome Reception from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the foyer, where attendees will enjoy passed hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, professional photography, and the smooth, soulful sounds of Ellis Wright in a refined setting designed for conversation and connection. At 1 p.m., guests will transition to the ballroom for the signature brunch experience, featuring a delicious brunch and a powerful live performance by esteemed vocalist Joy Westbrook, whose unforgettable artistry elevated last year’s event. A cash bar and selfie station will be available throughout the afternoon, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.

“This is more than a brunch - it’s a celebration of community, empowerment, and joy,” said Helen Hester Ross, Event Chair. “From the music to the message, every detail is designed to inspire and uplift while supporting causes that truly make a difference.”

Why the Event Matters
Proceeds from the Joyful Brunch will benefit the MAC Mentoring Program and the Michael Austin Clark JTHS Endowed Athletic Boosters Scholarship. Together, these programs extend Mike’s legacy by providing young people with the tools, confidence and encouragement to thrive.

The MAC Mentoring Program, founded in Mike’s honor, provides guidance and enrichment for African American males in grades six through twelfth across the Joliet area. It is led by his sister, Shelley Clark, who continues the work her brother began.

“Mike believed that every young person deserves someone in their corner; someone who sees their potential and won’t let them give up on themselves,” Shelley said. “Through MAC Mentoring, we’re not just honoring his memory; we’re building futures. The impact of mentorship can change a life, and that’s exactly what Mike wanted this program to do.”

The event also supports the Michael Austin Clark JTHS Endowed Athletic Boosters Scholarship, established in partnership with the JTHS Athletic Boosters, a 501(c)(3) volunteer organization that enhances the experience of Joliet Central and Joliet West student-athletes through fundraising and community support.

“Mike believed in the power of athletics to change lives,” said Tanya Rico, President of the JTHS Athletic Boosters. “Honoring him with a scholarship that recognizes leadership, perseverance and character is a fitting way to support a deserving student-athlete and carry his legacy forward.”

About Michael Austin Clark

Michael Austin Clark, a 1999 Joliet West alumnus, was known for his humility, integrity and commitment to serving others. He served as president of the NAACP Joliet Branch beginning in 2013, launched educational initiatives, and in 2021 was appointed by Gov. JB Pritzker to the Illinois State Police Merit Board, where he later became chairman. Mike was a founding member and chairman of the African American Business Association and the visionary behind the Juneteenth African American Business Gala. He also helped establish the Diversity & Equity Council for the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry and served on the board of the Joliet Historical Museum, advocating for historically sensitive programming at the Old Joliet Prison.

Mike’s influence was particularly felt in education. He helped launch the Joliet Region Interfaith Education Council, supported community-wide initiatives such as the MLK Day of Service and the National Day of Prayer, and championed culturally responsive education and student support efforts at Joliet Township High School. Mike also mentored student-athletes and played a key role in restoring Friday night football games. Professionally, he served as an account executive at Travelers Insurance and was recognized as a Chicago Urban League IMPACT Fellow.

“Mike’s dedication to JTHS and the Joliet community was unmatched,” said Kristine Schlismann, Joyful Brunch Co-Chair. “His legacy reminds us that true leadership is about service, and we are honored to celebrate his life through this event.”
