Summer school operates Monday through Thursday, besides the following classes which meet virtually on Fridays:

4. Complete the student information section and select if your student will need to receive transportation. All students that live more than 1.5 miles from Joliet West High School are eligible for transportation.

Credit Recovery Courses
Who are Recovery courses for? Students who failed a required graduation course are the ideal candidates for summer school.
Cost & Attendance Policy:
- No cost for summer school enrollment.
- A $50 fee will be charged to your account if your student enrolls but does not complete the course.
- This fee ensures equitable allocation of summer school spots to support all students.
Registration Process
- By enrolling, you:
- Give permission for your student to attend and confirm they will meet the attendance requirements.
- Acknowledge that failure to complete the course will result in the $50 fee.
- After completing the enrollment form on Infinite Campus, your student’s counselor will assign the recovery course that best helps them get back on track and graduate on time.
- Course selection for recovery classes is managed by your student’s counselor. You are not able to select the course during registration.
- Limited Space:
- Please note: Completing the enrollment form does not guarantee your student a space in a recovery course due to limited availability.
- All students will be contacted regarding their placement after the due dates of March 31 for Session 1 and June 6 for Session 2.
If your student cannot be placed due to space limitations, you will be notified within the same timeframe.
Course Structure:
- Each summer school session covers the full content of a typical semester course.
- Students will receive a grade (A-F) based on their course performance and completion.
- Students may only recover One Course per session.
- JTHS offers summer school coursework for students that received an F in any of the following core courses:

Steps to register for Recovery Summer School courses
- Log into your infinite Campus Parent Portal. See here for any support with logging in for the first time.
- Select “documents” on the left side of the screen or see the “Documents Need Attention” in the bottom section of the screen. You must submit a registration form for each semester you are enrolling your student in recovery summer school.
- Session 1 Registration is for students that have previously failed a Semester 1 Course.
- Session 2 Registration is for students that have previously failed a Semester 2 Course.

Get-Ahead Courses
Who are Get-Ahead courses for? These courses are designed for students who want to advance their coursework ahead of schedule.

Registration:
- Registration can be completed online at MySchoolBucks.com or in-person at each campus bookstore.

Transportation:
- Students enrolled in this program may be eligible for transportation. To opt in, students must complete the transportation form available during the registration process on MySchoolBucks.

Fee Waivers:
- Students who qualify for a fee waiver (such as free or reduced lunch) will have the $10 materials fee waived for each session.
Get Ahead Course Offerings
Honors Physics
Prerequisites: Biology 1 Honors and Algebra 1. Students will complete intensive independent investigations that will develop their critical reading, writing and analytical skills. Students will solve rigorous physics problems by using appropriate tools, observations, methods, and measurements. The course focuses on the themes of motion, forces, energy, fields, circuits, and waves as outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the College Board framework. This is a Pre-Advanced Placement (AP) laboratory science course which will incorporate the eight science practices as well as scientific writing skills. |

Honors Geometry
Prerequisites: Algebra Honors 1 Students will focus on and apply the 5 conceptual categories of the common core. The course will have an emphasis on representing, modeling and transforming quadratic functions. The following topics will be introduced: right triangles and trigonometry, circles, and various relationships between geometric figures. Students’ ability to understand statistics and probability will be extended beyond the Algebra 1 Honors course. Students in this course will exercise an intuitive ability to think mathematically and demonstrate prerequisite skills throughout this course. REMARKS: Texas Instrument Graphing Calculator (TI-84 plus or TI-NSpire) is strongly recommended |

Honors Advanced Algebra
Prerequisites: Algebra 1 Honors and Geometry Honors. Students will focus on and apply the 5 conceptual categories of the common core. The course will have an emphasis on geometric proofs and representing and modeling trigonometry. In addition, the following topics will be introduced: representing and modeling polynomial and rational numbers, logarithms and exponents. Students’ ability to understand statistics and probability will be extended beyond the Geometry Honors course. Students in this course will exercise an intuitive ability to think mathematically and demonstrate prerequisite skills throughout this course. REMARKS: Texas Instrument Graphing Calculator (TI-84 plus or TI-NSpire) is strongly recommended. |

American Government
Grades 11 & 12 only Students will understand the foundations and components of the Federal and State governments and become active participants in American government. REMARKS: Successful completion of American Government indicates a passing of the US Constitution Exam, the Illinois Constitution Exam, and satisfies the State of Illinois Civics requirement. |

Economics
Grades 11 & 12 only Students will analyze the components of economic systems and the impact that they have on the American economy. REMARKS: Fulfills the state requirement for Consumer Education. |

- Go to www.myschoolbucks.com or download the mobile app MSB Parent, USA (IOS or Android)
- If you have not already done so, create your free parent/guardian account and add your student(s) using their school name/student ID.
- Add school items or invoices to your cart.
- Check out using your credit/debit card or electronic check
Transportation Information

Eligibility for Bus Transportation:
- Students who live more than 1.5 miles from Joliet West High School are eligible for bus transportation to and from summer school.
- Students who live within 1.5 miles are NOT eligible for bus transportation.

How to Opt-In for Bus Transportation:

- Session 1: No transportation requests will be accepted after March 31, 2025.
- Session 2: No transportation requests will be accepted after June 6, 2025.
- Recovery Class Students:
- If your student is taking a recovery class, you must indicate whether they require bus transportation when completing the enrollment form on Infinite Campus.
- Get Ahead Class Students:
- Students taking an advancement class who need transportation must complete the transportation request form when paying for the class on MySchoolBucks.

- Students who elect to drive can park in the senior lot by the tennis courts. No parking pass is required for summer school.

Welcome to Summer School!
This program is designed to provide a complete semester experience within each session, where students earn grades and credits by engaging in structured coursework, maintaining attendance, and adhering to campus guidelines to ensure a productive learning environment.
Once your student is enrolled, review the information below to help support your student to have a successful summer:
Your Summer School class
- Each summer school session includes all aspects of a typical semester of the course.
- Students are able to receive a grade(A-F) for completion of the course.
- Please find your class and room # by checking your schedule on infinite campus and switching the Enrollment calendar to “Summer School”.
- Parents can also log into Infinite Campus and check their student's schedule. See here for assistance with infinite campus.
- Students may only make up one credit per session.
- Students must bring their device each day to summer school.
Student Absences
- Students must attend all three weeks of a session to receive credit.
- Two days absent will result in being dropped from the summer program. If your student is dropped due to attendance, a $50 fee will be added to their account.
- If you arrive late, you will need a pass to enter the classroom.
- Three tardies to class will be considered a one-day absence for the above rule.
- All attendance violations will be reviewed daily.
Location
- All students will enter through door 5 where they will have their ID scanned daily.
- All summer school recovery classes will be in the E building besides Physics and Honors Physics.
Discipline
- Repeated misbehavior will result in parent contact followed by removal from the summer program. Students that are removed from the program due to behavior will also have a $50 fee placed on their student account.
Student Attire
- All students must be wearing an ID to enter the building. The ID will be scanned when entering.
Length of School Day
- Students should be prepared to start class at 8:00 AM.
- Students will be allowed to leave at 1:00 pm for dismissal.
- Students will be given two scheduled breaks throughout the day.
- There will be no lunch or breakfast served. Students may bring a snack.
- The vending machines will be available for students to use during summer school hours.
Passes
- Only emergency passes will be issued.
- Students cannot leave the E building without supervision.
