Pre-Advanced Placement

Pre-AP courses deliver grade-level appropriate instruction to all students. Pre-AP offers high standards in focused courses that help build, strengthen, and reinforce students’ content knowledge and critical thinking skills.

Pre-AP is a College Board program designed to give all students the skills and confidence to succeed in AP® courses, college, and beyond. These courses focus on critical thinking, problem-solving, and building strong academic habits—preparing students for success in any future pathway.

At JTHS, Pre-AP is for everyone, not just top students. Every course is built on engaging, grade-level content and gives teachers the flexibility to adapt instruction to meet the needs of their students.

Pre-AP courses focus on the most important content and skills that students need to learn. The courses devote more time to fewer concepts so that students have time for deep learning.

All Pre-AP courses, no matter what the subject, ask students to do these things:

  • Observe closely before starting to explain or analyze
  • Respond to questions that challenge them to think critically
  • Take part in discussions with their peers to learn more about a topic
  • Write using evidence from sources and texts.

Building these skills will help students succeed through high school and beyond.
