District Committee Scholarships
District committee scholarship applications are reviewed and selected by the scholarship committee at each campus. Scholarships listed below are pending donor approval for the 2024-2025 school year.

Barbara Markelz Memorial Scholarship
Amount: (1) $1,000 or (2) $500
Campus: Joliet West
Scholarship Criteria
- Student must be a graduating senior of Joliet West High School
- Student must currently be on the staff of the Tiger Tales newspaper and/or Alpha Omega yearbook
- Scholarship will be awarded upon proof of enrollment at any college/university, community college or trade school
- The amount of the scholarship will be determined by the number of chosen recipients
Beverly Grossman Scholarship
Amount: $500 (1 Central Student and 1 West Student)

Scholarship Criteria
Preference will be given to, but not limited to the following criteria:
- Complete application form
- Minimum 2.0 G.P.A.
- Demonstrates financial need
- Not receiving any other scholarship awards through the school
- Review of student discipline

Beverly M. Antoniewicz Scholarship

Brass Family Education Scholarship for the next Generation of Educators/JTHS Foundation
Amount: $500 (2 Central Students and 2 West Students)
Campus: Joliet Central and Joliet West
The Brass Family Education Scholarship supports the Brass family legacy of education and contributions of Joliet Township High School to the Brass Family. The scholarship seeks to support students who have the desire to major in an education-related field in hopes that the students will seek the opportunity to teach at Joliet Township High School to teach completion their degree.
Two (2) $500 scholarship is for any JTHS graduate who is pursuing a degree in an education-related field.

- One (1) from Joliet West
Two (2) $500 scholarship is offered to a student of color pursuing a degree in an education-related field.

*This scholarship is offered in alignment with Strategy One of the District’s Strategic Plan: Action Plan 1-3 - Implement comprehensive processes which are designed to increase staff efficacy and provide opportunities to increase the diversity of staff within the school district.

Brenton H. Wadsworth Scholarship/JTHS Foundation
Amount: $1,000 (2 Central Students and 2 West Students)

- Graduating senior from Joliet Township High School, Central campus
- Minimum 2.5 GPA
- Other things being equal, financial need will be considered an important factor
- Preference will be given to students planning to attend one of the following: Joliet Junior College, University of St. Francis, N.I.U. or S.I.U.
- Pursuing a career in education with interest in becoming a teacher and/or desire in studying communication or broadcasting in the Radio, Television & Digital Media program at S.I.U.; or, Communication & Media Arts at the University of St. Francis; or, Communication Studies at N.I.U.

Daniel Bryan Dow Memorial Scholarship

- Graduating male senior from West Campus
- Student must be college bound and plan to attend the University of Illinois Engineering College and preferably be a Computer Science Major
- Student should be in the accelerated program and the top 10% of the graduating class
Dr. Cheryl McCarthy Future Educator Scholarship

Eastside Neighborhood Council Scholarship

Eken Family Scholarship Fund
Amount: $5,000 (2 Students)

Scholarship Criteria
- Eligible candidates must demonstrate financial need, be officially enrolled at Joliet Central High School in good standing, and have participated in at least one school extra-curricular activity.
- Two scholarships of $5,000 each shall be awarded. The following criteria applies.
- One scholarship awarded to a student who has accumulated a 3.2 G.P.A. on a 4-point G.P.A. scale and who is planning on attending either a 2 year or a 4 year college.
- One scholarship awarded to a student who has demonstrated academic growth/improvement during their high school career and has attained a minimum 2.5 G.P.A. on a 4-point G.P.A. scale. This scholarship awarded to one attending any “post high school” institution including a college or accredited vocational/trade school approved by the Joliet Central scholarship committee.
- For students attending ‘college’, preference will be given, but not limited to students planning to attend one of the following: Joliet Junior College, Illinois State University, Carthage College, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Miami University Oxford, Ohio
Ellery Frost Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $1,000 (1 Central Student and 1 West Student)

Scholarship Criteria
- Successful completion of three credits in industrial education, including vocational course work
- The recipient must plan on pursuing training in traditional industrial arts and enroll in a school/college for trade and industrial-related careers
- Demonstrated potential and performance in industrial/vocational education. Scholarship, character, and motivation are to be considered
- Financial need does not have to be considered for this award
- There will be no discrimination based on sex, race, creed, or handicaps
Emilie Baltz Scholarship
Amount $300 (2 Art Students and 2 Photo Students)

- Open to students of exceptional art and photography talent and motivation
- Only 2nd and 3rd year of art or photo students to be eligible

Jim Sczepaniak Scholarship/JTHS Foundation

- Must have earned at least 3 credits in social science courses (history, government, economics, etc.)
- Must be planning on going to college and majoring in history or other social science related major

Jimmie Dale Gant Scholarship
Amount: $500
Campus: Joliet Central or Joliet West
Scholarship Criteria
- Member of the JTHS Golf team
- African-American student. If no African-American applies or qualifies, then the award will be given to a student of another ethnic group
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Funds to be paid directly to college or university.
Joseph & Cecilia Trizna Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $500
Campus: Joliet West
Scholarship Criteria
- Scholarship, character, motivation, and aptitude for success are to be considered
- Consideration should be given to a student that plans to enter an education, a legal, or a law enforcement field following a college education. A stated major is not required of the recipient
- Financial need does not have to be considered for this award
- Other scholarships and awards to students should not be considered
- There will be no discrimination based on sex, race, creed or handicaps
JTHS Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship/JTHS Foundation
Amount: $250 (2 Central Students and 2 West Students)

Scholarship Criteria
- Student must be relative of a Joliet Central, East or West Alumni
- Student must have participated in school activities
- Student must have completed more than 40 hours of community service
- Student must be accepted to a two or four-year school post-secondary school in Illinois

- Preference given to student accepted and committed to University of Illinois at Springfield, but not limited to students planning to attend the following: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Illinois Chicago, Northern Illinois University, or Southern Illinois University
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate other
- Persistence in the face of challenge or difficult circumstances
- Willingness to work cooperatively with others toward a positive outcome
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral
- Interest in studying communication, media, or broadcasting

Kimberly Michelle Dow Memorial Scholarship

- Graduating female senior from West Campus
- Student must be college bound (not junior college)
- Student should be in the accelerated program and the top 10% of the graduating class
- Student should be involved in Women's Athletics (Gymnastic Team if possible)
- This award should be presented without regard to income level

- The recipient must plan on pursuing vocational train in a post-secondary institution or program (College/University, Junior College, Vocational/Technical School, Apprentice Training Program, etc.)

Robert J. Baher Literacy Scholarship

- Selection to be made by Arts & Communication teachers and Coordinator
- Based on literary writing (i.e. essay)

Schaller Aspiring U of I Student Scholarship

- Academic merit
- Must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0/4.0

Schaller Women in STEM Scholarship

- Must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0/4.0
- Service to school and/or community
- Past activities which shows a strong promise of success in future endeavors
- Must be enrolled at a 2-year or 4-year school in a STEM field

Strike Up the Band Scholarship
Amount: $500
Campus: Joliet Central
Scholarship Criteria
- One graduating senior from the JTHS Central band
- An actively enrolled member of the band for a minimum of 7 semesters, but not more than 8 by the graduation date of the school year.
- A GPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale (2.50 on a 4.00 scale)
- Has met all graduation requirements of Joliet Township High School, District 204
- Recipient has been chosen because of dedication to the band, school, and community as a positive role model and true “Unsung Hero”
- The JTHS Central Director of Bands ultimately determines the scholarship recipient. In addition to nominees considered by the Director of Bands, the process must include input from members of the symphonic band. Inclusion of peer nominations from members of the symphonic band is considered to be a valued element in the overall selection process.
- Letters of nomination to the Director of Bands must include evidence of a nominee’s:
• Examples of good character and the previously listed attributes
• Examples of continuous/selfless actions of involvement, leadership, inspiration, and commitment to the members of the band and the band’s activities, programs, and honored legacy.
• Additional examples and actions on behalf of JTHS Central and/or the Joliet area community should be included. - The award is a tuition only scholarship and not for books, equipment, or any miscellaneous fees. The scholarship/award is a one-time award to the student in the amount of $500.
- Paid directly to the recipient’s chosen post-high school accredited community college or 4-year college/university after presenting evidence of registration, with a total number of credit hours to be classified as a full-time student during the first semester.
Tim Baltz Scholarship
Amount: $400 (1 Foreign Language Student and 1 Drama Student)
Campus: Joliet Central
Scholarship Criteria
- Graduating senior from Joliet Central High School
- Only 2nd or 3rd year French/Spanish students, or 2nd or 3rd year Drama students to be eligible
- Selection to be made by French/Spanish teachers and Drama teachers
- Priority given to students pursuing Foreign Language major/minor, and students pursuing Performing Arts/Communication/Media Studies major/minor
- Funds paid directly to student
William K. Schmidt Family Scholarship
