Two Joliet West High School musicians were selected for the Illinois Music Education Association All-State Bands and Choirs.   Tabitha Barowsky, a Senior Bassoonist at West, will perform as a member of the All-State Band, and Rebecca Janovsky, a Senior Choir member at West, will perform in the ILMEA Honors Chorus.

The selection process for ILMEA State Ensembles is competitive and rigorous.  Students from across the state are chosen based on their audition and participation in the District Festivals that took place in November.   Ensemble members typically spend 3 days in January rehearsing prior to performing a concert in Peoria; however, due to current COVID restrictions, ILMEA is solidifying options for a festival to take place in late spring.

“We are extremely proud of Tabitha and Rebecca on their selection as members of these prestigious ensembles,” stated Choir Director Tim DeBoer and Band Directors Eric Wellman and Alyson Bauman.  “There are many outstanding musicians in the State and selection as an ILMEA musician is a great honor and a tribute to our students’ talent and work ethic.”
