Natalie Flemons
  • Alumni Spotlight

Natalie Flemons, Joliet West High School Class of 1995, is a dedicated healthcare professional whose career reflects compassion, perseverance, and excellence in service. A proud graduate of the University of St. Francis, she began her healthcare journey as a Patient Care Technician at Edward Hospital in Naperville while attending nursing school, building a strong clinical foundation and a deep commitment to patient care.

After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Natalie launched her RN career in 2000 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, caring for chronically ill patients in an underserved community before returning to Edward Hospital to further strengthen her clinical experience. She went on to expand her expertise with a Master of Health Services Administration and a Certification for Case Management, positioning herself for impact beyond the bedside.

In 2003, Natalie joined The Hartford, where she was hired the same day as her interview and has since built a distinguished career in the Workers’ Compensation department, serving as a Nurse Case Manager, Triage Nurse Consultant, and now Clinical Reviewer. She is grateful for opportunities to grow and lead through the EXPLORE Leadership Program, the Black Insurance Professional Network, and the Clinical Culture Committee, where she continues to advocate for quality care and equitable outcomes.

“My inspiration for choosing nursing comes from my mother. I watched her faithfully care for patients as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 32 years, and I also witnessed the compassion she showed while caring for our family. Through her example, my heart was cultivated with a deep passion for the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of others.”
My journey was not easy, but I was committed and I was unstoppable. I faced moments of doubt, including being told by a college advisor that I would not earn my bachelor’s degree. I transferred colleges, navigated unexpected obstacles, and cared for both of my parents while studying for my state boards. What carried me through was my determination to finish strong and my faith in God.

Advice for Students:
Set your mind on your goal and be relentless. No matter how long it takes or how many challenges you face, stay focused, stay faithful, and keep going. Your perseverance will carry you farther than you ever imagined.”
