Joliet Central and West students who participated in the SkillsUSA events at the Regional and State levels received recognition at the May 16 Board of Education Meeting.  Joliet Central’s Lead SkillsUSA advisor Ben Deuerling, and West’s Lead SkillsUSA advisor Ryann Hager worked with 25 students from each campus to participate in the SkillsUSA Regional events where students demonstrated the career-related skills they learned from their current classes. Competition events included Career Readiness, Automotive Service, Baking and Pastry, Computer Programming, Culinary Arts, Electronics Technology, Interior Design, Nail Care, Nurse Assisting, Technical Drafting, Welding, and Welding fabrication.

Twenty students from the regional event qualified for SkillsUSA State competition where they further challenged themselves against other CTE students within Illinois. The State Qualifier from Joliet Central in Photography is Santiago Navarro.  Joliet Central State Qualifiers in Technical Drafting are Maximiliano Alvarez, Brian Baron, Shatierre' Figueroa, David Gonzalez, Diego Gutierrez, Ozziel Lara, Emilio Mercado, Heidy Ortiz, Brandon Perez, Gabriel Rodriguez, Leo Smith, Vai Stulga, Diego Vazquez, and Alexandra Widlak.  The Joliet Central State Qualifier in Welding is Sai Aguirre. 

Joliet West State Qualifiers are Olayemi Orukotan in Computer Programming, Edgar Perez in Electronics Technology, Maya Guerrero in Interior Design, and Alyssa Lopez in Nail Care. 

Regional Competitors from Joliet Central in Welding are Raul Govea, Diego Chavez, and Ellen Munoz.  Joliet Central Regional Competitors in Welding/Welding Fabrication are Jason Hrpcha, Tyler Rolenc, and Galileo Sanchez.  The Joliet Central Regional Competitor in Photography is Ja'Niya Hughes; Alondra Pintor Sandre is the Regional Competitor in Technical Drafting; and Vivian Vazquez is the Regional Competitor in Baking and Pastry.

Joliet West Regional Competitors in Nursing Assisting are Teliya Butler, Jendayi Jackson, Fernando Jimenez, Adriel Keller, Ty Murakami, Marshaun Polk, Kaylee Starke-Torres, Tatiana Strong, and Steve Tabe.  The Joliet West Regional Competitors in Welding are Jose Ferreyra, Xander Garcia, Logan Lucas, Luke Merritt, and Imanol Quiroz.  Joliet West Regional Competitors in Culinary Arts are Courtright Gleason, Jose Hernandez, Jurnee Jenkins, Michael Skole, and Victoria Turner.  The Joliet West Regional Competitor in Automotive Service Tech is Edgar Silva, and Alaina Berk is the Joliet West Regional Competitor in Interior Design.
