Joliet Township High School Receives 2020 Gold Star Award from National Hook Up of Black Women, Inc. Joliet Chapter

Joliet Township High School District 204 is one of five agencies receiving the 2020 Gold Star Award from the National Hook Up of Black Women (NHBW), Inc. Joliet Chapter.  Award recipients are being honored for their commitment to families, communities and the extraordinary work demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“JTHS has worked in partnership with the Joliet Chapter of NHBW on many initiatives such as the MLK Day of Service, African American Read In, Summer Academy presentations, Women’s Health Expo, and work through the Joliet Region Interfaith Education Council,” said JTHS Superintendent Dr. Karla Guseman.  “We thank President Debra Upshaw and all the members of the Joliet Chapter for this prestigious honor.  We look forward to continuing our partnership to support and serve our students, family and community.”

The Joliet Chapter of the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc. was founded in 1991 and works to improve the quality of life, facilitate family preservation, achieve self-empowerment, and promote economic development. Membership reflects a diversity of women from varied business, professional, and community disciplines crossing all economic, social and educational levels.  All programs and services are presented to the community at no cost. The NHBW, Inc. is a member of the National Black United Federation of Charities.
