Joliet Central’s Maverick Lewis Earns Silver Medal Representing Team USA in International Archery Championship

Joliet Central High School junior Maverick Lewis recently represented Team USA at the World Archery Pan American Youth and Masters Championship in Medellín, Colombia, earning a silver medal in mixed team competition against top archers from across the Americas.

More than 250 archers from 16 countries competed in the international tournament hosted in South America.

Lewis opened the competition with a strong performance in qualification rounds, placing second individually in the U18 division while shooting a personal best score. His qualification score also earned him the lone U18 male position on Team USA’s mixed team.

During individual elimination rounds, Lewis advanced to the top eight before narrowly falling by one point to a competitor from Canada.

Lewis and his U18 female teammate later secured a second-place finish in mixed team competition, earning a silver medal for Team USA.

Team USA Archery finished the championship with 31 total medals and placed first overall among participating countries. Lewis earned one of those medals while competing on the international stage.

Earlier this year, Lewis earned multiple titles at the Illinois Target Archery Association State Indoor Championships, including three U18 Male State Champion honors and a new Illinois state record in the 25-meter indoor event.

Lewis is a high honor roll student at Joliet Central High School and a member of the school’s STEM Club. Outside the classroom, he competes nationally in archery and trains six days a week. He is also a member of Team Strictly Archery and Beyond the X.
