A surprise presentation took place last week recognizing the achievements of Joliet Central High School freshman Brian Baron who won first place in the Daughters of the American Revolution Contest at the National, District, State, and Local Louis Joliet Chapter levels. https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjAENB2
The contest is part of the Junior American Citizens, and the theme this year was the 200th anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail. Brian wrote a short story for the Creative Expression portion of the contest and after winning at the chapter and state level, he was awarded a $25 check and a button presented to him at the chapter’s February Student Recognition Program on February 4 held at the American Legion Marne Post 13 in Plainfield. For winning at the National level, Brian was presented with a medal and a certificate signed by the President General and National Chair out of Washington, D.C. Brian was encouraged to participate in the contest by English Teacher Emily Petronio who is chair of the Junior American Citizens.
