In a heartfelt display of community service, Joliet Central JROTC students dedicated three weeks in November to raise funds for Joliet’s Guardian Angel Community Services. As part of their service-learning curriculum, which encourages students to give back to the community, the JROTC cadets set out to make a positive impact in the lives of those in need.

Through their efforts, the students successfully collected a total of $2,030 in cash donations by using "spare change" themed collection cups. These donations will directly support Guardian Angel, an organization that provides essential services such as temporary shelter, food, clothing, counseling, and educational programs for abused women and children in the Joliet area.

The JROTC cadets formally presented the check to representatives of Guardian Angel in December, just before Winter Break. The ceremony was a meaningful moment for the students as they reflected on the importance of selfless service and the positive change they can create in their community.

"It is an honor to see our students engage in this important work,” said Major Phil Jayko, Joliet Central ROTC Instructor.  Their dedication to supporting our community is a testament to their commitment to making a difference. This initiative not only helps those in need but also teaches our cadets the value of service, compassion, and teamwork."

The JROTC program at Joliet Central High School continues to uphold a long tradition of excellence, both in leadership development and community service. By participating in efforts like these, students are able to put their training into action while improving the quality of life for others in their community.
