Get ready for a vibrant celebration of art and talent as Tommy Jemilo, an AP Art student at Joliet Central High School, presents his first-ever independent art exhibition! This exciting event will take place at the trendy Internode on Chicago Street in downtown Joliet on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Join Tommy for an evening showcasing his incredible artistic vision, alongside delicious treats from Gigi's Sweets on the Go, making it a perfect family-friendly outing.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled and grateful that Tommy has this amazing opportunity to showcase, sell, and share his work,” said Nyssa Grzyb, Tommy’s AP Art teacher at Joliet Central. “He’s worked incredibly hard, and this event is the perfect way for him to connect with the community and further his artistic career.”

This exhibition, titled Tommyz Creationz, marks a milestone for Tommy, who has recently achieved remarkable accolades. His artwork was selected to be featured on the Youth Art Month Flag for his entry Shine in the prestigious Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA) Youth Art Month (YAM) competition. His winning piece, reflecting this year's theme “Healing Through Color,” will represent Illinois at the national level!

In addition, Tommy has earned acceptances to two of the nation’s top art schools: Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). He has also been awarded merit scholarships to both institutions, including the prestigious Distinguished Scholar Scholarship from the Art Institute.

“I’m incredibly excited for Tommy and all he has achieved,” said Grzyb. “He is not only a talented artist but also a kind, respectful young man and a two-sport athlete who shines both on the court and in the classroom. His dedication and drive will take him far.”

From the moment he first started sketching in my advisory, it was clear he had a natural talent, but what truly sets him apart is his curiosity, dedication, and willingness to push his creative boundaries. His Youth Art Month award is so well deserved, and I’m incredibly proud of all he’s accomplished. I can’t wait to see where his talent takes him next," said Mrs. La Vine, Central Visual Arts Teacher
