Joliet Central and Joliet West Boys Volleyball Teams Raise More Than $1,100 for Hope Manor Joliet

The crosstown rivalry between the boys volleyball teams at Joliet Township High School brought the community together for a meaningful cause as the Volley4Vets Showdown raised $1,182 for Hope Manor Joliet.

The event was held May 12 at Joliet West High School and featured the Joliet Central High School Steelmen and Joliet West High School Tigers boys volleyball teams competing in front of students, families and community supporters. Funds were raised through ticket sales, donations and raffle baskets to benefit veterans in Will County.

Hope Manor Joliet is one of the first large-scale supportive housing developments in the country designed specifically for veterans with families. Operated by Volunteers of America Illinois, the campus-style community provides housing and support services for veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Services include counseling, employment assistance, case management and youth programs.

“This event gave our student-athletes an opportunity to compete while also giving back to local veterans and their families,” said Tara Litwicki, Head Boys volleyball coach at Joliet West High School. “We were grateful for the support from both school communities and everyone who contributed to making the Volley4Vets Showdown a success.”

Organizers said the event highlighted the positive impact student-athletes can make beyond competition while supporting an organization dedicated to helping veterans build stability and long-term success.
