Fourteen JTHS students receive IL Seal of Biliteracy

Fourteen JTHS students received the 2019-2020 Illinois Seal of Biliteracy after taking a language proficiency exam or by receiving a 4 or 5 on the AP Spanish Language Exam. This program is designed to give students that are proficient in English and another language the ability to be officially recognized for being bilingual.

The 2019-2020 Seal of Biliteracy recipients from Joliet Central High School are Liliana Banuelos, Daisy Betancourt, Carola Cardoza, Estefany Fierro, Stefany Magana, and Abigail Portillo.

The 2019-2020 Seal of Biliteracy recipients from Joliet West High School are Alvaro Ascensio, Aileen Carranza, Alexis Dela Torre, Joana Diaz, Valerie Duarte, Elizabeth Gomez, Diego Lazaro, and Dulce Martinez.

This designation carries with it the following benefits.  The Seal of Biliteracy is placed on the diploma and transcript which certifies attainment of biliteracy skills. It meets the college entrance requirement of two years of foreign language for Illinois public colleges and universities, allowing students to obtain college credit in modern languages at Illinois public colleges and universities. Additionally, it provides employers, colleges, and universities a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills.
