Dear Joliet West Track Fans,

Welcome to the reintroduction of the Joliet West Tigers Track Team!!!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.   My name is Tisha Alvarez and I am the Head Girls Track Coach here in Joliet.  I am entering my 15th year of coaching and my first year as a head coach.  I started track in the first grade, but it wasn't until 5th grade where I discovered my strengths were in the field events.  It was the throwing events (shot put and discus) which ended up taking me to college and into the tryouts for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

This is going to be a very exciting year for the track program.  The JWHS Girls Track & Field program is built around three key concepts: Commitment, Improvement, and Sportsmanship.

The coaches in the JWHS Girls Track & Field program believe in a “hard work” approach that will lead to excellence on the field of competition. We believe that this approach will produce an end result that is rewarding and fulfilling for the athletes in our program.

Coaches in the JWHS Girls Track & Field program are committed to helping each athlete achieve in their athletic pursuits by providing excellent coaching in terms of training and technique. This is accomplished by the athlete’s dedication to attend practices and maintain a good attitude throughout the season. The coaching staff is committed to encouraging and providing positive experiences for all athletes.   Ultimately, it is our goal to help develop the love of track and field and learn a commitment to one’s self and to one’s team.

We expect athletes, parents, fans and coaches to exhibit good sportsmanship throughout the season. We must learn to maintain sportsmanship even in times of adversity. That is when true character of a person is really tested.

We believe athletes should continually strive at setting goals throughout the season and working hard to achieve them.  It is these attributes in talented athletes that will produce results that continue to propel the competitive success of our team.
