Welcome to Joliet West Girls’ Cross Country. It is an honor to be the head coach of a team that will proudly represent Joliet West in a sport that is a true passion of mine. The 2010 season proved to be one I could not be more proud of, yet looking at the team this year, I am extremely excited for the possibilities that these girls present in 2011. The potential within our small but sturdy team promises to display itself as the season progresses.
I believe that all of my runners are not only vital to the make-up and character of our team, but also hold within themselves the strength to become the best athlete they can be. My goal as a coach is to help guide these young ladies down that path. By preparing these girls through daily practices while teaching them the finer aspects of competitive running (such as the purpose of the run, the ways of living healthy, and how to listen to what their bodies are telling them), I hope to see each girl grow not only in her running ability but as people also.
As a current coach and runner, I look back on my time running in high school and remember not only the practices and races, but also how cross country helped me in numerous ways, especially in regards to self-discipline. I hope to share my love and knowledge of the sport with my current team. In addition to helping each girl improve, I also hope that these girls become life-long runners that bring the lessons they learn on my team with them as they grow.
In addition to my own experience, we also have acquired a new assistant coach for the 2011 season, Maureen Nelligan. Maureen is a life-long runner who has achieved numerous accomplishments throughout her high school career and into college. Maureen ran for ISU and has most recently coached at Sandburg. We are extremely happy and excited to have her on board!
All support is welcome and encouraged. Most of our meets take place on Saturday mornings, and our meet schedule can be found on the right hand side of this page.
