Dear JT Parents,
I am proud to be the head golf coach for Joliet Township High Schools. Our program is a Township sport with both Central and West students filling our roster. My coaching philosophy is to allow the players to grow as individuals and as teammates, using golf as a metaphor for life. The very nature of the game demands honesty and integrity. By doing the right thing on the course and by extension the right thing in life, our players will develop into quality young men that we can be proud of.
Our goals are team based as well as individual. As a team our goal is to win our conference and to advance through the Regional and Sectional Tournaments with the ultimate goal of winning the State Championship. Our individual goals are to play by the rules, attend practice daily, work on all aspects of our game (long, short, putt) and to improve year over year. We also expect our players to be successful students in the classroom: attending class every day, completing assignments on time, studying for exams, getting extra help when needed and doing the right thing… always.
Our focus this upcoming season will be consistency and to practice like it means something. On the practice range we are loose and relaxed without any pressure. We stripe the ball down the middle, hit every iron perfectly and we can sink the 25 foot practice putts. But all too often that does not translate to scoring well on the course. We will strive to take our range game to the course and look for marked improvements in each player’s game.
I would like parents to know that I appreciate their commitment and support for their own child as well as the team. Although our schedule is one of the shortest (we finish in October), it is still a challenge to revolve a family’s home life around our golf schedule. Please continue to support your child’s interest in the game of golf and to help them understand the only way to get better is practice. We’ve had great success with a few of our golfers who have taken private lessons and I would sincerely like to thank those parents for both the time and money spent on their child’s sport.
Our pre-season begins in the summer with weekly instruction on the short game, putting and range. There are also camps and tournaments throughout the summer that we encourage our players to attend.
Thank you for your continued support and should you need to contact me for any matter please call or email at your convenience.
Best Regards,
Edward F. Larson
