    JOLIET WEST ATHLETIC SCHEDULES

Joliet West's Pep Club:  THE WILD STRIPES

Dear Tigers’ Fans,

Welcome to Joliet West Athletics! Joliet West is proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes, both on and off the field. Athletically, the Tigers’ compete in the Southwest Suburban Conference. Inside our conference, Sportsmanship is very important. We ask that spectators and players make behavior their top priority at all athletic contests. We will continue to have security at our games to ensure a safe and positive environment for our school community.

The cornerstone of our athletic department philosophy is that students can balance the pursuit of athletic and academic excellence simultaneously. Our athletic staff is committed to providing everything needed to reach the athletes potential athletically, while excelling inside the classroom. Joliet West is comprised with coaches that are professional, passionate, and hard-working. Each coach encourages their athletes to succeed in all aspects of life. The athletic staff promotes character education with the athlete awareness program for all in-season athletes. Inside this program, the student-athletes will focus on four core values or their BACE. (Building Community, Achieving academic success, Connecting with Joliet and the surrounding communities, and Exploring your life beyond the classroom).
The JTHS athletic department will also be introducing the captain's club to selected sophomore athletes. Each captains club will meet three times per season to provide a forum to exchange ideas, communicate concerns, and to learn strategies to improve leadership skills.
We hope that your experience is enjoyable anytime you enter our facilities. We will continue to improve in all aspects of our department. Please take some time to get familiar with our website. If you need anything, do not hesitate to call, email, or stop by Joliet West. My door is always open.
We invite you to join us in cheering for the Tigers!
Steve

History

Joliet West was originally constructed in 1964, one year after its identical sister school Joliet East, and has since been added on to 4 times. The first addition, completed in the early 1980s, added a bookstore to the cafeteria, additional space around the maintenance area, a multi-purpose room by the gymnasiums (primarily used for dance and wrestling), six additional classrooms, and a greenhouse. The second and third additions were completed as two consecutive projects, adding several additional classrooms, a new band room, cafetorium, conference room, dean's offices, and student commons area. From 1964-1994, Joliet West competed for many conference, regional, sectional, and state championships. In 1994, Central and West combined athletic teams. The Steelman became the mascot of both schools. However, with the passing of a referendum, JTHS was able to completed its fourth addition and construct fieldhouses at both campuses. Due to the fieldhouse additions and massive amounts of time and effort by JTHS administrators and staff, JTHS have been able to reinstitute athletic programs at both campuses. During the 2008 - 2009 school year, Central and West began to divide the schools athletic programs, beginning with Freshmen team sports. By the 2010 - 2011 school year, Joliet Central and Joliet West will have their own, entirely independent sports programs, and the rebirth of the Tiger Mascot. Both schools will compete in the Southwest Suburban Conference.
