August 18, 2017
A Message from Dr. Gibson: This is Joliet West High School's weekly Principal's Newsletter which parents/guardians receive every Friday. We are excited for the first day of school on Monday, August 21st! This newsletter contains some upcoming events and opportunities for students.
On Monday, August 21, America will experience a total solar eclipse. Students at Joliet Township High School may participate in structured observation activities, using eyewear that has been approved by NASA. These activities will only take place if they have had prior approval by the District Curriculum Director.
All other outdoor activities from the hours of 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.—such as physical education classes, athletic practices, and band practice—will be moved indoors.
If you would like to keep your student home for this historical event, it will be counted as an excused absence. You must call the attendance office at 815-727-6900 to report the absence. Please leave a message with the student name, ID, reason for the absence and who is calling. Attendance voice mails are taken 24 hours a day.
As a precautionary measure, please speak to your students about the dangers of looking directly at the sun.

JOLIET WEST Main Entrance Construction Changes (6/6/17 - Projected 1/1/18)
Due to construction, the Visitor Entrance (Door 1) and it’s parking lot are closed. The temporary visitor entrance is located at Door 6. This entrance is next to the cafeteria entrance at Door 5.
Visitor parking will be located in the designated spots directly in front of Door 6 and the Cafeteria.
Beginning August 21st during dismissal, “Hello My Friend Alley” will be one-way traffic leaving campus. This is the drive from Oneida St. that feeds into the school lot south of the tennis courts. The hours of one-way traffic will be from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This will help to relieve some of the congestion in the parking lot upon dismissal.
Two-way traffic on “Hello My Friend” alley will be in effect from the hours of 4:15 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
When picking up or dropping off students, parents must enter by the tennis courts or through “Hello My Friend”, and use the five lanes in the center of the large lot in front of the Field House and west of G building.
At dismissal, buses will depart from 3 different locations.
Location 1: Larkin Turnaround south of E Building.
Location 2: Cafeteria area adjacent to teacher parking lot.
Location 3: Exit lane between staff and senior parking lots.
