JTHS Board of Education Holds Special Reorganization Meeting

A special Joliet Township High School Board of Education meeting was held on Monday, May 1, to reorganize, reinstate, seat and approve a resignation for Board of Education members, following the April 4 Election. At the meeting, Jeff Pierson was reappointed to the position of President and David Skorupa was appointed to the position as Vice President. Member Tracy Spesia was appointed to serve as Secretary after being reinstated for another term.
Newcomers to the Board of Education, Meg Cappel and Angel Contreras were sworn in to serve their first term on the District 204 Board of Education. Contreras was appointed to serve as the board representative to the JTHS Alumni Association. Cappel was appointed to serve as the board representative for the JTHS Foundation.
The Board of Education approved the resignation of Don Dickinson who was elected to serve on the Joliet City Council as a member at large. Applications to fill the vacant seat are being accepted from now until 3 p.m. on May 22, 2017. The Board of Education will schedule interviews for May 31, 2017 beginning at 5 p.m. to fill the vacant seat. The individual selected will serve on the School Board from the date of appointment and will conclude after the April 2019 election at the swearing in of newly elected school board members. Applicants must be a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, a resident of Illinois and the District for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment, and a registered voter. They must also not be a child sex offender, hold another incompatible office, have a prohibited interest in any contract with the District, and a school trustee.
Joliet Township High School District 204 Board of Education Members are elected by residents within the school district’s boundaries. They volunteer their time to lead the district and serve four-year terms on a staggered basis. Board of Education Members adopt policies and rules that govern the administration of the school district and operate in strict accordance with Illinois laws and Illinois State Board of Education regulations.
