JT West Special Education Department
The Special Services Department at Joliet West provides services to students identified with academic, social/emotional, and/or physical disabilities which adversely effect their ability to learn within the general education curriculum. Once students are found eligible for services, an individual education plan (IEP) is developed based on the student’s educational needs. Every student with an IEP is assigned a case manager within the building. The case manager maintains regular communication with the student and parents as well as teachers and staff who work with the student. The case manager also attends all meetings and staffings for the student. The IEP goals and transition plan are reviewed on an annual basis. Students and their parents are team members in the development and revision of the plans. Teachers, case managers, and related service staff assist students in their skills development and learning to advocate for themselves. The related service staff includes the IEP managers, School Psychologist, School Social Workers, Speech Pathologist, and School Nurse.
Students experiencing difficulties in school who have not been previously identified eligible for special services can be referred to the Pupil Personal Services (PPS) Team by faculty, support staff or parents through either the student’s counselor or the PPS office.
