Provena St. Joseph Medical Center's Prep U Program
Purpose & Overview:
The purpose of the Prep U Program at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center is to provide an opportunity for high school students (15 & older), who are interested in a health care career, to volunteer at the hospital. During a 14 week session, students will commit to volunteering one scheduled day per week for 3 hours (4-7pm weekdays or 9am-Noon Saturdays). In addition to weekly volunteering, the students will have to complete a group service project for the hospital with their volunteer peers. Student can also request a 3-hour job shadow of a health care career during their session.
For each 14 week session, a maximum of 28 students will be selected. Below are the scheduled session dates, mandatory orientations dates, mid-point service project meeting dates & conclusion ceremony dates for the next calendar year. Students can only volunteer if they can commit to the full 14 weeks. In addition, students who miss more than 2 scheduled volunteer days will forfeit their accrued service hours. At the conclusion of the 14 weeks, students will present their service projects & be awarded with a letter of completion documenting their service hours accrued.

Sign Up: Students interested in participating in the Prep U Program should complete our Volunteer Interest Form as soon as possible prior to the session they are interested in participating (please indicate on form which session student is applying). The interest forms will be reviewed & students will then be called in for interview appointments. Interest forms can be found online at

Please Note: The Prep U Program will replace our existing candystriper/ teen male volunteer program. All students still active in the existing teen program will need to commit to Prep U Program if they wish to continue volunteering at the Medical Center.
