JTHS achieves Excellence in Financial Reporting Award

The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded Joliet Township High School District 204 a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for the 2008 fiscal year.

This is the 22nd consecutive year the school district has received the award.

The Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting was designed by ASBO International to enable school business officials to achieve a high standard of financial reporting.  The award is only presented to school systems that have met or exceeded the standards of the program.

JTHS credits its financial stability to the District's Strategic Plan which was formulated in 2002 and was recently re-affirmed by a Strategic Planning Team comprised of community members, parents, teachers, administrators, and business representatives.

By moving district administration to The Herald News Building at 300 Caterpillar Drive in Joliet, JTHS will create 10 science classrooms at Joliet Central High School.

The new Administrative Center provides a central location and space for teacher and administrator meetings as well as offices for the technology and business departments.

JTHS will also lease a portion of the building to Mary Sears Children's Academy where day care services will be provided to those residing within the JTHS school boundaries and to JTHS faculty.  For more information call (708) 460-4414.

5-year Strategic Plan empowers students to compete and contribute

The JTHS Board of Education approved the Strategic Plan at the Board of Education meeting in April.  A team of 29 volunteers labored over three intensive days to review our existing strategic plan.  The 2009-2014 Strategic Plan builds upon the original plan which was developed in 2002 when the district turned to strategic planning to improve school improvement efforts.  The planning team included students, parents, teachers, clergy, business representatives, board members and administrators.

Since 2002, the plan has been a map that the district follows to improve our schools.  Progress made under the previous Strategic Plan includes the creation of the Freshman Academy and Career Academies, the new field houses, and a district wide behavior management system.

The 2009-2014 Strategic Plan contains a revised mission, strategies and objectives.

JTHS Mission

The mission of Joliet Township High School, a diverse and unified learning community of choice, is to empower every student to acquire and apply the attributes to compete and contribute positively to our community and global society by providing a rigorous, relevant, and innovative education in a safe, supportive, academy environment through a quality, caring, and dedicated staff working in partnership with family and community.

Where we are headed…

The following strategic objectives will shape our growth during the next five years:

·         By the year 2014, every student will meet or exceed district and state standards in reading, writing, math, science, and social science.

·         By the year 2014, the graduation rate as defined by the State of Illinois will be 90% or higher.

·         All students will develop and implement a challenging Individual Career Plan (ICP) and make a successful transition to further education and a career endeavor of his or her choice.

·         All students will consistently demonstrate the character attributes needed to compete and contribute as respectful, responsible, and productive citizens.

How we will get there...

The following strategies will be implemented to achieve our long-range objectives:

1.     We will develop and implement innovative plans to motivate and engage students and their families in achieving our strategic objectives.

2.     We will develop an effective communication and marketing plan to recognize achievement and instill pride and support throughout our school and community.

3.     We will identify, model, reinforce, and measure the character attributes needed to compete and contribute as respectful, responsible, and productive citizens.

4.     We will complete the development of the Career Academy Program and ensure every student develops and implements a meaningful Individual Career Plan (ICP) in partnership with family, community, and staff.

5.     In collaboration with all sender districts, we will develop and implement a cohesive, rigorous plan to ensure academic and behavioral success of all students.
