School District Welcomes Yess |
|
|
The Board of Education and the entire administration staff of Joliet Township High School welcome the YESS program. We welcome the new partners into our buildings, and we welcome the concept of building new relationships with the community.
As superintendent, I am often called upon to explain some of the differences in today’s educational environment. I simplify the subject by describing the new “Three R’s” of learning. These are Rigor, Relevance and Relationships.
We are indeed increasing the rigor of our courses at JTHS. Every student is now in a college prep level curriculum. We are most definitely stressing the relevance of what is taught. We expect teachers to provide real world examples of why students need to learn the material presented.
Relationships are being strengthened in a number of ways, from the new Freshman Academies to the YESS program. With this program, we are able to reach out to community resources and to families. We can reduce or remove some of the barriers that keep our students from taking advantage of the opportunities provided through this district.
I have great hopes for the partnerships created by YESS though this unique grant initiative. I look forward to reading the success stories that will soon fill these pages.
Dr. Paul Swanstrom, Superintendent
