JTHS student achievements in tech competitions recognized during 2017 May Board Meeting

Out of approximately 160 teams nationwide, the Joliet Township High School Engine team was one of 39 teams who qualified to compete at the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow, Engine Challenge, National Championship Competition in November of this school year. The students placed 24th out of 39 at this National Championship.

West Students James Donald Miller and Anthony Ryan Tokarczyk and Joliet Central Students Ulises D Carreno, Jr., Martin Chavez, and KJeffrey Ray Law, Jr., were recognized along with their coaches Milton George, Justin Moscato, and John Barber. Click here to read more.

 

Illinois Drafting Educators Association State Competition

Led by teachers Dave Popek and Dale West, students from West and Central competed in the IDEA State drafting competition in March. From West, Alexa Perez competed in 3D solid modeling and Alannah Ramirez placed 3rd in Architectural Board. From Central, Sam Goin competed in 3D Solid Modeling, and Cesar Escutia placed 3rd in 3D Assembly Modeling. Click here to read more.

 

Illinois State University Technology Day

Technology Day, started in 2001 at Illinois State University, is a one-day series of STEM-based, simultaneous, hands-on competitive events, typically drawing between 300-400 middle and secondary students.

This year the top placing students from Joliet West were William Alberico & Erik Noon – Transportation Technology – 1st Place, and Jon Vega – Invention & Innovation – 3rd Place.

Moraine Valley Welding Competition

Mr. Joe Contreras lead students at a Welding competition at Moraine Valley.  Joliet West students competed against four schools and the following students medaled.

James Blankenship – SMAW – 2nd Place

Alejandro Pantoja – OAW torching cutting – 2nd Place

Max Duarte – MIG Welding – 1st Place & 2nd place overall

Ryan Highland – MIG Welding – 2nd Place

Steve Koemer – OAW torch cutting -1st place & 1st place overall
