JTHS Kicks Off Partnership with Chicagoland Speedway for 2016-2017

On Friday, September 16th, Joliet Township High School and the Chicagoland Speedway kicked off its latest partnership program, in which art and construction students will produce four photo-opportunities to be featured during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend in 2017.

Differing from the culinary-focused competition from previous years, art and construction students from West and Central campuses will compete against fellow classmates to provide the best four original designs, two from each campus.

With the support of Chicagoland Speedway’s expert marketing staff, the art students will develop project proposals to be evaluated by a panel of judges from the Chicagoland Speedway and Joliet Township High School representatives in October.

Joliet West art student Jaylin Holland said, “I’m excited to work with NASCAR and the Chicagoland Speedway. I’m learning how to take a business objective and put it into action.”

Each of the four winning designs will then be brought to life by the Construction Occupations students, as the photos will be made to stand at 5 feet wide by 7 feet tall or 7 feet wide by 5 feet tall.

Once completed, the winning creations will be available to over a hundred-thousand fans for picture and “selfie”-taking during Chicagoland Speedway’s Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race weekend in 2017.

Throughout the year-long program, Joliet Township Administration will work to obtain local sponsors for each design and donate to two community organizations of the student’s choosing. Students will also have the opportunity to apply for scholarships totaling $2,500.

“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Scott and his team at Chicagoland Speedway for working with Joliet Township High Schools to develop what we believe will be a truly special experience for a large number of students,” said JTHS Assistant Superintendent Dr. Karla Guseman. “This year’s program is creative, and will give each student a real glimpse of what it will be like to work within a team to accomplish a business goal.”
