Joliet West Adopt-a-Family Program 15th year of giving to families in need during holidays

The Joliet West Social Workers shared the holiday season’s spirit of giving through the Adopt-a-Family Program for the 15th year in a row. The program is also strongly supported by the school, district administration, and the community.
Started by West school social workers Mrs. VanTilburg and Mrs. McCormick and now also led by West social worker Mrs. Gunier, the program has served over 2,900 individuals in the past fifteen years. This year alone, the Adopt-a-Family program reached over 30 Joliet West families and 160 individuals.
The process begins when VanTilburg, McCormick, and Gunier contact families in need to learn if they are interested in being "adopted". If so, they obtain a wish list and clothing sizes of each family member through a confidential process. The wish list is then given to the “elves”, the group or individual adopting the family.
Once all of the gifts have been donated, West social workers contact the families to personally deliver all gifts to the homes of the students if the family is unable to pick up the gifts from the school.
This year, Famous Dave’s restaurants generously adopted 7 families, about 35-40 individuals. Pictured are Shelly Marek and Kelli James from Famous Dave’s. All of this year’s “elves” are listed below.
