The History of Strategic Planning

The First Strategic Plan (2001-2002 School Year)


2002—On January 14, 15 and 16, a diverse group of 30 individuals wrote the district’s first Strategic Plan, which resulted in a mission statement, objectives, strategies, beliefs, and parameters. Action planning teams were formed and charged with writing action plans for the 7 strategies that were written.

2002—On June 3 and 4, the Strategic Planning Team reviewed the recommendations from the Action Team Leaders who assembled Action Planning Teams to write sets of action plans for the 7 strategies. The group approved the action plans and submitted them to the Board of Education for approval.

2002—On June 13, the JTHS Board of Education approved the 2002 Strategic Plan and all associated action plans.

 

Strategic Plan Progress Report (2003-2004 School Year)
 

2004—On March 19, JTHS Administrators presented a formal progress report to the 2002 Strategic Planning Team.
 

Strategic Plan Periodic Update (2005-2006 School Year)


2005—On October 11 and 12, the Strategic Planning Team met again to participate in a Periodic Update to review progress on the 2002 Strategic Plan and to determine the need for revisions and changes. As a result of the update, changes were made to the mission, objectives and strategies. Four Action Planning Teams were charged with writing action plans to address the areas of: assessment (Strategy 1), communication (Strategy 8), preparing students to transition in and out of JTHS (Strategy 6), and the integration of character education (Strategy 4).

2006—On March 20, the Strategic Planning Team reviewed the recommendations from the Action Team Leaders who assembled Action Planning Teams to write sets of action plans for Strategies 1, 4, 8 and 6. The group approved the action plans and submitted them to the Board of Education for approval.

2006—On June 20, the Board of Education approved the revisions made to the Strategic Plan and associated action plans.

 

Strategic Plan Renewal—Second Strategic Plan (2008-2009 School Year)


2008—On July 30, 31, and August 1, JTHS assembled a new planning team comprised of 29 members. The team participated in a renewal of the 2002 Strategic Plan and made changes to the mission statement, objectives, strategies and parameters. The team re-affirmed every belief statement. The Strategic Planning Team called for the assembly of five action planning teams to develop sets of action plans for Strategy 1 (Student and Family Motivation and Engagement), Strategy 2 (Communication and Marketing), Strategy 3 (Character Attributes), Strategy 4 (Career Academy and ICP), and Strategy 5 (Collaboration with Sender School Districts for Academic and Behavioral Success).

2009--On March 9 and 10, the Strategic Planning Team reviewed the recommendations from the Action Team Leaders who assembled Action Planning Teams to write sets of action plans for Strategies 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. The group approved the action plans and submitted them to the Board of Education for approval.

2009— On April 21, the Board of Education approved the updated Strategic Plan and all associated action plans.

 

Action Plan 1.2 Revision (2010-2011 School Year)
 

2010—On December 14, the Board of Education authorized opening action plan 1.2 to examine the possibility of a 1:1 computing environment. An action planning team was assembled to examine and revise this action plan.

2011—On March 15, the JTHS Board of Education approved the addition of strategic action steps to Strategy 1, which calls for the implementation of 1:1 technology.

 

Strategic Plan Progress Report (2011-2012 School Year)


2012—On February 22, JTHS administrators presented a formal progress report to the 2008 Strategic Planning Team.
 

Strategic Plan Periodic Update (2012-2013 School Year)


2012—On October 1 and 2, a newly assembled Strategic Planning Team of 26 stakeholders participated in a Periodic Update to review progress on the re-affirmed 2009 Strategic Plan and to determine the need for revisions and changes. As a result of the update, the mission was re-affirmed. Changes were made to the objectives,
strategies and belief statements. Strategy 5 (Collaboration with Sender School Districts for Academic and Behavioral Success) was eliminated as a strategy and added as a parameter. The group called for the assembly of Action Planning Teams to examine and make changes to Strategy 1 (Student and Family Motivation and Engagement), Strategy 3 Action Plan 6 (Measurement of Character Attributes), and Strategy 4 (Common Core State Standards and Academy Implementation).

2013—On February 25, action plan presentations for Strategies 1, 3 and 4 were given to the Strategic Planning Team and the team accepted the action plans with some revisions.

2013—On March 19, the Board of Education approved the renewed Strategic Plan and all associated action plans.
