APPAREL MERCHANDISING AND DESIGN

Prerequisites:  Fashion Construction 1 and 2

Students will have an opportunity to explore fashion from it's infancy to well beyond our current decade through the examination of the fashion industry and specific designers.  Advanced sewing skills will be acquired and practiced through projects and samples.  Students will also explore the field of apparel merchandising through business planning, store design and lay out, production, cost analysis, and marketing.  Additional focus areas include:  entrepreneurship, textiles, care and cleaning of fabrics, and use of technology in design.  Related career fields include:  fashion designer, fashion historian, costumer, stylist, personal shopper, buyer, entrepreneur, textile designer, customer service representative, textile chemist, and environmental engineer.

REMARKS:  GAP 10 students may enroll.
