Prerequisites: English 1 and must meet District honors criteria.

Students will master techniques of literary analysis using representative selections of literature, including novels, short stories, nonfiction works, and plays. Extensive expository writing and considerable reading from prepared reading lists are required. Additionally, students will participate in a variety of speaking situations. The major emphasis of English 2 Honors is upon higher-level thinking skills (analysis, synthesis, and evaluation) and the application of these skills in the preparation of speeches, written essays, and readings. Persuasive and informative speeches are to be geared toward national and international affairs. Students will apply critical reading techniques to prepare essays and speeches which reflect depth in research, formal organization, M.L.A. documentation, and sophisticated understanding of evidence. Students are introduced to speech contest events.Some emphasis is placed on the improvement of listening skills and the achievement of desired effects through the use of language.
