The purpose of Junior R.O.T.C. is to “motivate young people to bebetter citizens”, and is therefore open to all students. Students may enroll in Junior R.O.T.C. in lieu of Physical Education, or may enroll in both Junior R.O.T.C. and Physical Education. The Junior R.O.T.C. curriculum consists of seven units: (1) Citizenship in action; (2) Leadership theory and application; (3) Foundations for Success; (4) Wellness, fitness, and first aid; (5) Geography, map reading, and environmental awareness; (6) Citizenship in American history and government; and (7) Civilian air rifle marksmanship and safety program. In addition, students create individual portfolios which are updated every semester of J.R.O.T.C.
Extracurricular activities include color guard, honor guard, drill team, air rifle team, and raider team. All military uniforms andcourse books are provided by the Junior R.O.T.C. department at no cost to the student.
