Grade Advancement Policy (GAP):
This policy is in addition to the graduation requirements found in Board Policy 6:300. The Board of Education recognizes the need to appropriately define eligibility for students to be classified as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior as they progress toward fulfilling graduation requirements. With this in mind, the Board directs the administration to communicate to students and to parents the following requirements:
To be classified as a sophomore (tenth grade), a student must earn prior to the start of sophomore year at least 5 credits, which must include English I and one credit of Algebra 1 or higher.
To be classified as a junior (eleventh grade), a student must earn prior to the start of the junior year at least 10 credits, which must include English 2, Advanced Algebra or Geometry or higher.
For the purpose of fulfilling the state testing requirement, all students must take the mandated state assessments.
For a student placed in Special Education, the Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be used to determine graduation requirements per Board Policy 6:120 (Education of Children with Disabilities).
