Boys Soccer

Dear Joliet Central Boys Soccer Fans,

Our soccer philosophy is that education, sportsmanship, dedication and hard work are essential in developing good fundamental soccer players. One must remember that soccer is a team sport. For the boys to display their talent on the soccer field, they must take care of the most important thing which is their education. Soccer players are student athletes first and they must maintain their eligibility by passing their classes to show off their soccer talent. We (the soccer staff) believe that Joliet Central is one of the finest soccer programs in the whole state of Illinois due to the hard work and dedication that the boys have shown these past 9 years. While our goal is to win every game, we (the Joliet Central boys’ soccer staff) believe that if the boys put forth the effort and hard work into every practice and game, the wins will take care of themselves. We strive to become better soccer players every time we touch the field. We shall also display good sportsmanship whether we win or lose. We shall offer words of praise and encouragement to our opponents no matter what the outcome of the game was.

Our goal every year is to go to the state final four for Class 3A soccer. We have high expectations because we know what it takes to be one of the better soccer programs in our area and conference. We have gotten a taste of success and the boys like the expectations of representing the school in the state playoff series. Through hard work, sportsmanship and dedication, the boys feel that we are capable of achieving this goal every year.

The boys coaching staff is very experienced. The Head Coach (Eduardo Contreras) has been coaching soccer for 16 years. He has been the Head Boys Soccer Coach at Joliet Central (Joliet Township) for the past 9 years and previously coached at Tilden Career Community Academy for 7 years. Eric Wendt, the Boys’ Varsity Assistant coach, has been coaching at Joliet Township for the past 6 years. He was an all conference player at Willowbrook HS and played college soccer at DuPage Community College. Michael Russell is in his 2nd year as an assistant coach on the varsity leavel.  He previously coached at Lyons High School.  Chris Uphon is in his 1st year as an assistant coach on the varsity level.  He also is the freshmen girls coach at Joliet Central High School.  Eamon Colwell is the sophomore Head Coach and is in his 3rd year with the Joliet Central soccer program.  He was a former Joliet Central graduate and played soccer at Joliet Central.  Derek Lutz is in his 1st year as an assistant on the sophomore level.  He is a former graduate of Joliet Central and played when it was a combined program.  He is a former All-Conference and All-Sectional player for Joliet Township.  Artemio Hernandez, the Boys’ Freshmen Coach, is returning to the Joliet Central boys soccer staff after a 3 year hiatus.  He coached at Gomper Junior High for 4 years and is a coach in the No Limits soccer club for the past 8 years.

Parents should encourage their sons to maintain their eligibility by passing their classes. By doing this, their sons can display their soccer talent on the field.   Parents should feel free to talk to their sons coach whenever they feel that their son is not taking care of their schoolwork. The soccer staff places a high importance on education. This is what we believe that their son should focus on first, then soccer.

We look forward to another exciting year of soccer based on the high level of excellence that the boys have been able to establish and maintain these past 8 years. The boys have started a tradition of winning with class these past 8 years and every senior class strives to maintain that level of excellence.

Sincerely,
Coach Eduardo Contreras

The Boys Varsity soccer team looks forward to another winning season.  This year's team returns 9 starters from a team that made the Sectional finals championship game last year.  The boys have gone through a tough 4 day stretch of 2-a-day practices and are ready to start playing in some games.  The lower levels are also ready to show their talent in this upcoming season.  They want to continue the standard of excellence that Joliet Central displayed last year and that Joliet Township has established the past 7 years.  The soccer staff and the boys look forward to seeing you at the newly built Joliet Central Stadium.    GO STEELMEN!
