Dear Steelmen Fans,

Welcome to Joliet Central Athletics!  Joliet Central is entering a very exciting time in its storied history. Joliet Central is proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes, both on and off the field. The Steelmen compete in the Southwest Suburban Conference. Within our conference, sportsmanship is very important. Joliet Central received the SWSC Sportsmanship Award in 2010 and the banner is proudly displayed on the north side of the main gym. Since our students and coaches are able to display good sportsmanship that is recognized by our peers in the SWSC, Joliet Central Athletics expects our spectators to model these same values for our students and coaches. We ask that spectators, coaches and players make behavior their top priority at all athletic contests. We will continue to have security at our games to ensure a safe and positive environment for our school community.

After District 204 split athletic programs in a majority of our sports in 2010 - 2011, my philosophy has simply been athletics should be used as a tool to motivate our student athletes to succeed in the classroom. Our athletic staff is committed to helping all our student athletes reach their athletic potential while excelling inside the classroom. Joliet Central has coaches that are professional, passionate, and hard-working. Each coach encourages their athletes to succeed in all aspects of life. The athletic staff promotes character education with the athlete awareness program for all in-season athletes. Guest speakers are brought to Joliet Central to speak to our freshmen and sophomore athletes three times a season. The focus of their discussions revolves around our seven character traits of Compassion, Confidence, Respect, Tolerance, Responsibility, Integrity, and Perseverance. We have also created a Captain's Club where captains from in season sports have the opportunity to have breakfast with the athletic director three times a season to discuss/share highlights of their season or concerns they may have in regards to Central Athletics.

We hope that your experience is enjoyable anytime you enter our facilities. We will continue to improve in all aspects of our department. Please take some time to get familiar with our website. If you need anything, do not hesitate to call, email, or schedule a meeting with me at Joliet Central.

Go Steelmen!

Mr. Locke

Thank You Peg Bryan…

The JTHS Family is deeply saddened by the recent passing of long-time Joliet Township High School volleyball supporter, Peg Bryan.

Bryan was a fixture in the District 204 volleyball and athletic programs.  “Peg never missed a volleyball game,” said Joliet Central High School Athletic Director Steve Locke.  “In my twelve years of participation in high school athletics I have never met a more giving person than Peg Bryan.”

Peg bravely battled cancer for over a decade and remained one of the most dedicated supporters of JTHS athletics.  Bryan’s involvement in JTHS volleyball included the coordination of Volley for the Cure, which raised over $8,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation over the past three years.  Bryan and her husband, Sam, also provided a scholarship each year to a girls volleyball player in honor and memory of their daughter.

Peg will be greatly missed.
