JTHS Alumni Spotlight: On Air with Emilee Ziesmer, Joliet West High School Class of 2009
They say “choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life,” and that’s exactly what Emilee Ziesmer (West ’09) did. From finding her passion in high school to landing a job that warms her heart, Emilee works every day with a genuine smile on her face.
Emilee first found her passion for multimedia and media design in her Photography I and II courses at Joliet West. “[Jack] Prendergast introduced multimedia as a platform for both art and writing,” Emilee explained. “I am still able to use these applications in my profession today.”
Emilee always hack a knack for design. Before she graduated in 2009, she redesigned the Joliet West tiger logo that we still see today.
Once she realized she could apply this passion in her educational and professional career, Emilee took up Broadcast Journalism at Joliet Junior College. Upon completing her Associates Degree, Emilee transferred to DePaul University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.
Now, Emilee is working at 1340 WJOL AM radio as a TV Medial Specialist, On-Air News Broadcaster and Production Specialist. “Sometimes I substitute as a news broadcaster for Slocum in the Morning and Kevin Kollins,” she explained. “Other times, I’m the producer for WJOL-TV and am in charge of live-streaming video content. I even serve as the audio control board operator for various radio shows and special events.”
