A - FOUNDATION FOR INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS IN EDUCATION COMPETITION
FIRE is looking for bright, college-bound high school seniors to submit well-written essays about how American universities betray the purpose of a university and violate the constitutional guarantees of free expression as depicted in two documentaries found at: the fire.org/multimedia.
Awards:
· First Place: $5,000 college scholarship and will receive an all-expense-paid invitation to the 2012 Campus Freedom Network Conference in Philadelphia
· Second Place: $2,500 college scholarship
· Runners-Up: Five students will each receive a $1,000 college scholarship

B - JOHN F. KENNEDY – 2012 JOHN F. KENNEDY PROFILE IN COURAGE ESSAY CONTEST
The Profile in Courage Essay Contest provides students an exciting opportunity to develop research, writing, and critical thinking skills as they explore the concept of political courage. They are asked to identify an act of political courage, locate the reliable and varied source material, and synthesize this information into a compelling essay. The contest meets national standards in social studies and language arts.
Qualifications:
· United States high school students in grades nine through twelve attending public, private, parochial, or home schools.
· Also eligible are U.S. students under the age of twenty enrolled in a high school correspondence/GED program in any of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, or the U.S. territories; and U.S. citizens attending schools overseas.
· Past winners and finalists are not eligible to participate.· Employees of John Hancock Financial and members of their families are not eligible.
Awards:
· First Place winner receives a $5,000 cash award and $5,000 to grow in a John Hancock Freedom 529 College Savings Plan
· Second Place winner receives a $1,000 cash award and up to five finalists each received a $500 cash award

The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program wants to reward students who have succeeded both inside and outside of the

The Hisipanic/Latino Scholarship aims to strenghten the Will and Grundy Counties by advancing college education among
Hispanic Americans. These scholarships are made possible through a grant awarded to the HLC by the Silver Cross Healthy
Community Commission.
You and your family must be descended from at least one of the following countries: Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras,
El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Chile,Bolivia,Uruguay,Paraguay,

Annual scholarship in the amount of $1,500.00 to a graduating senior attending high school in the Will County area.
The scholarship can be used at any accredited institution of learning over a four-year period, for a total amount of $6,000.00.
A teacher must nominate the student for this scholarship with a letter of recommendation reflecting the student's academic
achievement and their personality traits. The teacher can also include any extra-curricular activities or citizenship charac-
teristics that the student displays.
One additional teacher must also complete a letter of recommendation.

The scholarship awards will be made directly to the institutions where the recipients are enrolled.
Scholarship winners will be selected based on essay responses received. The maximum length of essays is one page,

awareness and critical thought about the pressing issues facing the world today.
Financial need and academic achievement will also be considered.

achievements in Science and Mathematics. The recipient may apply toward any of the undergraduate degree programs in
Engineering, Architecture, Art & Sciences, and Management.
The student selected to receive the award must meet these criteria:
- Be a high school junior in the oacademic year of 2011-2012
- Complete at least one year of chemistry or physics and two years of college preparatory mathematic courses with distinction by June 2012
- Be an active and responsible citizen of the school and community.
