Get an unofficial transcript from your counselor and take note of courses needed for graduation and for college preparation.
Register to retake the ACT in the fall to improve scores.
Register to take the SAT or AP exams (spring) if applicable.
Use your planner to keep track of courses and grades earned. Maintain grades for
all
courses the
entire year.
Many colleges will request a midyear transcript. Second semester grades can affect your admissions and scholarship opportunities.
Finalize your college applications between October and November for schools that have early decision. Deadlines per college vary. Otherwise apply prior to January 1.
Request official transcripts to be sent to your college choices. (Sept/Oct). This is done in the Guidance Office before or after school. Each transcript is $2.50.
Apply for scholarships including scholarships available at the schools to which you are applying.
Pay close attention to deadlines for college admission and scholarship applications.
Follow up with schools applying to in order to assure all necessary materials have arrived.
Complete and submit your college financial aid application and Free Application for Student Financial Aid (FAFSA) between January 1 and February 15. Your parents must complete their income tax forms in order for your FAFSA to be complete. Encourage them to do this ASAP.
In the spring, compare acceptance letters and financial aid offers. Once you have accepted a school, contact their financial aid office. Select your school by May 1 and notify the schools you did not select.
Request a final transcript, from the Principal's Office, to be sent to your college (May/June).
Participate in any summer orientation programs for incoming freshmen at your college.
Update your portfolio and resume.
