Required Summer Reading
This year, our English Subject Area Committee has selected the National Book Critics Circle Award Winner, Half a Life: A Memoir by Darin Strauss for the required summer reading selection.
This memoir will correspond to an in-class writing assignment for ALL students in the College Preparatory, Co-taught, and Honors English classes. You will be able to find Half a Life: A Memoir at your local public libraries and bookstores. There are a limited number of books available in the schools’ library, as well as the Main Office for check out. The reading must be completed by the first day of school in the fall since the in-class writing assignment will be given during the first week of school (August 20-24, 2012).
All students in the Instructional level classes will read Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix.
All classes will experience a closer study of the book as part of an individualized unit in their English studies.
Happy Reading!
