Over 170 students, staff and parents participated in the 5th annual Steelmen Tri-Fecta Costume Run and Turkey Trot this fall. The Steelmen Tri-Fecta is a run/walk series organized by teachers in the Health & Medicine Academy at Joliet Central High School. The goal of this health and wellness initiative is to “GET OUT-GET FIT-GET SOCIAL.”
Each event begins at the Field House of Joliet Central High School and is between two to three miles total distance. The events take participants to Bicentennial Park, Iron Works Park, and the Patrick Haley Mansion. Through donations and sponsorships, participants of the Tri-Fecta series enjoy healthy food, breakfast treats, drinks, and raffle prizes after each event.
Each event of the Steelmen Tri-Fecta takes place before school on regularly scheduled school days. Participants arrive by 6:45 am to check-in and each run begins at 7:05 am. Because of the generous sponsorships from Joliet-area businesses, this health and wellness initiative continues to be free of cost to all participants. Additionally, participants who complete all three events during the school year receive a free dry-fit long sleeve shirt in the spring.
The third event of the Tri-Fecta series is scheduled for Friday, March 16th, with the theme: “I’Rish I was Running”. This St. Patrick’s Day themed event will start at 7:05 a.m. Interested participants can contact Susan Cailteux at email@example.com for more information or simply check out the Steelmen Tri-Fecta Facebook site at steelmentrifecta.
