The Joliet Central High School Student Center addition was named Regional Best Project for 2016 in the K-12 Education category by the Engineering News-Record (ENR) in Chicago today.
Dr. Ilandus Hampton accepted the award on behalf of the District and Board of Education.
ENR’s annual Best Projects award program is dedicated to honoring the best construction projects and the companies that designed and built them in all 50 states plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. An independent jury of industry leaders in design and construction judge the projects using five criteria through a global perspective. These criteria include safety, innovation and teamwork. The winners are featured in the pages of ENR, and at an awards event in September.
Close to 100 entries were received, each detailing a truly excellent construction project completed in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa or Kentucky.
The Joliet Township High School Student Center addition was built by Gilbane Building Co., and designed by Wight and Co., to meet the needs of a 21st century educational environment while preserving the historical integrity of the 115-year-old building.
